This position will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing recruitment strategies to increase enrollment in an assigned recruitment territory. This person will build and strengthen relationships with prospective students, parents, and other key stakeholders. This position focuses on recruiting and enrolling applicants who are academically prepared and excited about becoming part of a community of diverse learners and scholars.
The Admissions Counselor will meet with influencers at targeted schools to present programs and promote the enrollment at the University. This position requires extensive travel, evening, and weekend work, as well as interaction with prospective students, parents, and other key stakeholders. This person must have both the desire and passion to engage in significant interpersonal communications with prospective students over the phone, as well as in-person, emails, and text messaging. This individual will possess project management and data analysis skills, be an effective team player, and excellent organizer to handle multiple tasks.
Responsible for the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of recruitment and outreach efforts to support the University’s mission within an assigned territory in Michigan. Direct the day-to-day operations of recruitment within an assigned territory. Coordinate with schools, colleges, and offices across the UM-Flint campus for participation in recruitment efforts. Oversee enrollment management and monitor trends for assigned territory in Michigan.
Build and strengthen relationships with primary feeder high school schools to increase yield. Prepare and execute presentations to prospective students, parents, and other key stakeholders both on and off campus. Develop new markets to broaden qualified applicant pool from the assigned recruitment area. Coordinate visitation and travel to high volume/high yielding high schools while using discretion and independent judgment in developing and modifying travel schedules within an assigned territory. Based upon University's needs, admissions counselors maybe asked to assist or be reassigned to another recruitment territory.
Advise students and key stakeholders on the admissions process, educational opportunities, and academic requirements at UM-Flint via phone, as well as, in-person, emails, and text messaging. Interpret University admissions policies and procedures.
Provide liaison services to other UM Flint offices including financial aid, housing, orientation, or specific school and colleges. Represent UM Flint’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions at professional meetings and regional workshops. Work with the recruitment communications in support of program objectives.
Evaluate applications holistically for domestic freshman students using UM Flint’s comprehensive application evaluation guidelines. Work with processing team to support the process and document flow of applications. Make consistent recommendations abiding by UM-Flint and specific school/college guidelines. Serve as the primary admissions and enrollment liaison for the assigned territory.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. One or more years' sales experience. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet multiple deadlines. Must have strong organization skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to operate independently and make independent decisions. Valid driver’s license.
Master’s Degree in higher education or related field. Two or more years recruitment experience within college admissions.
