Responsibilities*

Recruitment & Outreach

  • In coordination with laboratory managers and Pathology Operations assist with recruitment of laboratory personnel to ensure a smooth on-boarding and off-boarding process is established.
  • Assist with deployment and creation of reports for exit interviews from departing staff.
  • Identify and liaison with schools, training programs and universities to identify trainee opportunities.
  • Assist and coordinate ad hoc job shadowing requests.
  • Develop and maintain recruiting tools & resources.
  • Function as a representative at conferences, career fairs, or high schools to promote open positions and the profession.

Internship Coordination

  • Primary liaison for the Michigan Medicine Histology, Medical Laboratory Science, Phlebotomy, Pathologist Assistant, or other non-faculty internship programs.
  • Primary contact for university affiliates.
  • Ensure all contract addendums are updated and current.
  • Coordinate and create interview schedule for interns and help with orientation and touring students.
  • Organize interviews with lab coordinators and communicate back to affiliates which students were selected.
  • Coordinate with HR to have internship positions posted so interns may apply.
  • Assist interns with completion of related HR/onboarding paperwork. Guide interns thru health employment screening, parking permits, and background check process.
  • Compile intern resources or training materials.
  • Review applicable department & Michigan Medicine processes with interns during orientation.
  • Improve and update intern website.
  • Create exit surveys to distribute to interns and email out to laboratory coordinators & managers to develop improvements to the program.
  • Coordinate and lead meetings throughout the year with laboratory coordinators to ensure open lines of communication, address issues, and discuss opportunities to improve the internship experience.
  • Assist with collecting and analyzing data to evaluate success of internship program.
  • Assist with development of new programs to meet Pathology’s educational needs.

Professional Development

Fulfill departmental continuing education requirement of 12 CE credits per year. Complete assigned training for role as assigned

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • More than 5 years of professional experience is required.
  • Superb interpersonal skills, ability to have crucial conversations with good conflict resolution skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in instructional methods and or development of programs is desired.
  • Knowledge of testing performed in various laboratories.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices
  • Ability to translate complex problems and concepts in training
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office or related applications.
  • Data analysis and compilation experience.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
