The HITS Enterprise Infrastructure (EI) division secures, manages, and architects Michigan Medicine data centers, networks, and communication infrastructures. The team is responsible for all Michigan Medicine IT-related technical infrastructure, including data centers and communication facilities; wired, wireless, and in-house cellular networks; spectrum management; communication; complex device management; fiber/wiring plant; hosting; directories, databases, and storage; and continuity of operations institution-wide. The team collaborates with partners across Michigan Medicine to assure the security, stability, reliability, scalability, and economic management of the institution’s technology infrastructure.

Job Summary

As a member of the HITS Windows Hosting Services Team, you will implement and manages over 2,800 Windows servers in both physical and virtual (VMWare) environments. We manage multiple strategic projects; including Cloud compute, datacenter consolidation; service offering for research compute, automation/configuration management and orchestration strategies. You will report directly to the manager of the Windows Hosting Services Team.

Responsibilities*

You will propose, design, develop and support the Windows clinical and research server environment to provide tiered service offerings for mission critical systems both on premises and in the cloud.  Install and manage Windows server operating systems, and support software / services in both Windows and VMware infrastructure. Support server infrastructure including blade chassis, blade and rack servers, and the associated Management services. Develop scripts /tools necessary to extend the functionality and automate day-to-day management of the services.

We are seeking an individual with extensive Windows Server experience, experience with security concepts as it relates to Windows Server Operating System, including but not limited to interpreting MS security patches and impact on environment, best practices for OS hardening & encryption.

Required Qualifications*

Qualifications for Senior Position:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience implementing Windows Server solutions in an enterprise environment
  • Expert level knowledge of Windows operating systems (2012, 2016, 2019)
  • Experience deploying, maintaining, and supporting high performance Windows systems
  • Experience deploying guest Windows servers in VMware virtual environment
  • Experience managing Server Hardware Management software
  • Experience in scripting with PowerShell or PowerCLI
  • Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience with performance tuning and analysis on Intel/AMD based platforms
  • Strong security awareness
  • Experience with networking technologies, particularly as they pertain to managing Windows systems and applications running on these system
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels within the organization
  • Excellent Project management skills.
  • Willing to participate in on-call rotation.

Desired Qualifications*

  • 7 or more years of experience in managing and supporting large environment with Windows 2012 / 2008 Enterprise Servers in a complex, high availability, enterprise environment
  • Experience with VMware virtual server environments and configuring systems for maximum performance and operating flexibility
  • Have experience in HA clustered application/SQL environments from a server build and operations perspective.
  • Experience in supporting MS Exchange and Skype
  • Experience with SCCM and SCOM Management
  • Strong experience with disaster recovery processes and procedures to rebuild systems quickly using third party software such as Tivoli TVE or IBM TSM.
  • Proven technical leader with solid operating system administration skills, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude while working in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Trained and experienced in Project Management.
  • Certification preferred: MCSE, VCP
  • Knowledge or working experience with ITIL concepts.
  • Health Care industry experience strongly preferred.
