Job Summary

Highly motivated individual sought for a 1-year term limited research lab technician intermediate position in a basic research laboratory in the Department of Biological Chemistry, at the University of Michigan Medical School. The candidate will work closely with the principle investigator. Participation in research projects may include co-authorship in research publications that originate from the lab.

The applicant will be closely involved in a range of research projects, and will have opportunities to make original scientific contributions, interpret and analyze results, and suggest future directions. The successful candidate will apply their energy and expertise to cutting edge science.

Assist in new laboratory set-up including ordering and managing laboratory supplies, laboratory maintenance, organization, preparation of stocks and buffers, cleaning and dish-washing. On-going maintenance and re-stocking as needed.

Training and assisting students with preparations, research techniques, use of instruments, methods and procedures to help advance the research objectives of laboratory.

Ability to keep accurate records of work performed with the ability to communicate results through active participation in laboratory meetings. Compliance with University of Michigan regulations.

Required Qualifications*

HS Diploma and 1-3 years experience in a laboratory setting. Demonstrate experience training and mentoring undergraduate students.

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
