Job Summary

The Alumni association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) is seeking a full-stack developer to join our innovative technology team and focus on a wide range of development opportunities.  This role will provide technical expertise to our expanding technology landscape with focus on online applications and related back-end platforms.  The Association’s primary technology platforms include WordPress and Salesforce with several data integration components.  Working closely with AAUM’s program areas, the marketing team, Salesforce administrators, and various partners, this position will develop, manage, and support tools and applications in alignment with the association’s goals and strategies.  This role must have a strong skills and passion for software development and a very high level of quality standards.  Responsibilities will range from system administration to client-side development and back-end system integrations.

Provide technical expertise to our expanding technology landscape with focus on online applications and related back-end platforms.   • Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain complex WordPress-based applications, plugins, custom functionality, and theme integration
  • Diagnose and resolve backend bugs and support requests
  • Develop and deploy updates, upgrades, and patches
  • Collaborate with the project lead and senior backend developers to articulate the best technological solution for the problem at hand
  • Translate designs and wireframes/requirements into high quality code
  • Maintain and document code repositories and versioning tools
  • Apply and utilize best practices for software lifecycle development
  • Evaluate and implement third party solutions and commercial packages
  • Administer, manage, and maintain server, hosting, and application services
  • Maintain technical familiarity and expertise with mainstream and emerging technologies
  • Participate in UX technology design and develop evaluation prototypes
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant emerging development tools and technologies
  • Collaborate closely with other developers, partners, consultants, user experience designers, and business owners


General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support University Relations efforts by demonstrating AAUM value to campus units/partners (i.e., schools/colleges, campuses).
  • Staff team and Alumni Association events.
  • Provide staff support to the Alumni Association’s Board of Directors, its committees, and other volunteers.
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned or required.
  • Participate in Alumni Association and other University committees as required.
  • Participate in team and staff meetings.
  • Share knowledge through internal communication.
  • Support the Alumni Association’s vision of becoming more relevant to all alumni.
  • Remain current with respect to technology and the University’s educational resources.



This role will be supervised by the CRM Operations Manager. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software development or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of web and cloud technologies and related development tools
  • 3-5 years of professional PHP programming experience with relational databases, such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL and Oracle
  • Experience with third party API integrations
  • Front-end web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery)
  • Experience with hosting and web server administration, including Apache and Microsoft Web Services
  • Strong ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues
  • Ability to work well in a diverse and collaborative environment

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in building and maintaining large/complex institutional applications
  • Familiarity with Salesforce Triggers, Lightning Components, and APIs
  • Experience with user authentication services, including SSO and OAuth
  • Knowledge of security principles and eCommerce applications
  • Experience using front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap, Angular, or React
  • Using Git in development with multiple contributors
  • Web accessibility and ensuring that apps meet WCAG and Section 508 standards

This position may require some evening and weekend work.
