Job Summary

The Information Resources Assistant Senior (IRAS) is a member of the Public Services and Stacks units at the Law Library.  In their Public Services role the IRAS will use their problem solving skills and judgment to act as a back-up night site supervisor and participate in Library information desk coverage and circulation functions.  As a member of the Stacks unit, the IRAS shelves, shifts, and provides stacks maintenance to the Library’s physical collection; and backs-up supervision of student Stacks Assistants.  The Information Resources Assistant Senior works within the context of departmental and library-wide goals under the supervision of the Information Desk Supervisor and Stacks Services Unit leader.

During the academic year this person will work a schedule of 3pm - midnight.  During the Spring/Summer term and other interim periods, the schedule will adjust earlier to account for building hours.  A $1.00 per hour shift premium is paid for working the afternoon shift per the University's Shift Premium SPG 201.55.

  • Participate in Information/Circulation Desk coverage.

  • Participate in Library Circulation functions, including creating and revising bibliographic and patron records to ensure the accurate display of circulation system information in the public catalog and the library management system.

  • Participate in Library patron ID checks.

  • Back-up supervision of students.

  • Shelving and shifting of the collection, including microforms.

  • General stacks maintenance.

  • Stacks Services documentation and statistics.

  • Files pocket parts.  Follows publishers’ instructions to identify and exchange superseded material for new material.

  • Processing pages, pull, and recall requests.

  • Processes damaged books for preservation boxing and rebinding.

  • Processes transfers/withdrawals.

  • Retrieves and sorts mail as a member of the Mail Task Group.

  • Special stacks projects, as assigned; including Reclassification project.

  • Participate in Library shared tasks including office deliveries and printer and equipment checks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to represent the library and interact with student staff and library users with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to Law Library policies, and maintain confidentiality.

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and the ability to use judgment in response to unforeseen circumstances.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

  • Ability to work the scheduled evening/night and weekend hours.

  • Ability to push heavy book carts and repetitively carry and lift books weighing up to five pounds.

  • Ability to work in a dusty environment.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience working with the public.

  • Experience using Innovative Interface’s Sierra LMS or other automated library system.

  • Experience supervising students, including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating.
