Responsibilities*

Workshops

Assist in creating curriculum centered on College Success theories, practices, and experience to develop high quality programming for both group session and individualized communications.

Support workshop execution at Flint area schools in alignment with intended impact through comprehensive topic research, audience appropriate tailoring, clear workshop objectives, and opportunities to reinforce knowledge, and assess its effectiveness.

Display multiple learning styles and classroom management strategies to ensure audiences take away valuable content and meaningful impacts.

Assess the quality of their workshop and document attendance and feedback to report back to EOI staff. Remain up to date with all communications across the office ranging from front desk coverage, Educational Opportunity Initiatives (EOI) program calendars (e-version and physical boards), and daily front desk procedures.

Answer, transfer, and provide high quality services to community stakeholders seeking to contact an EOI staff member or clarify an EOI event.

Ensure equipment and resources are stocked daily and relay key updates to the administrative assistants and/or EOI staff throughout their shift.

File Management

Ensure all proper documentation is accounted for during all EOI events such as presentation handouts, assessment forms, etc. and process all documents as part of office records.

Support up-to-date management of student files by effectively and efficiently collecting, filing, and sorting key program documents.

Provide support to staff needed to compile or dispose of student files.

Work with the database management staff to ensure that all files are properly maintained and stored.

Event Planning

Verify with EOI staff regarding all logistical aspects of event planning are successfully met such as effective tracking of RSVPs, venue confirmation, assist with flyer and brochure creation, key equipment reservation, presenter confirmation, sign in sheet creation, and vendors are secured. Consult with EOI staff to ensure all supplies are in line with budget parameters and EOI event planning standards.

Host events, responsible for all aspects from set-up through cleanup after their conclusion.

Identify and recruit necessary volunteers and/or EOI staff representatives as applicable.

Assist with other EOI sponsored events.

Communications/Marketing

Capture programming history (pictures, documents, presentation outlines) to help market key program events online and in print form.

Assist with the development of an overarching marketing and communications strategy for event promotion and closeouts.

Ensure and that EOI social media and communication tools are up-to-date.

Create and establish communications, for events in compliance with University Communications and Marketing guidelines.

Maintain and update all EOI bulletin boards on a monthly basis in collaboration with other EOI program staff.

Outreach

Represent EOI on Flint area high school campuses and community spaces to provide awareness of the EOI mission, programs, and goals of EOI.

In cooperation with Admissions, raise awareness of support for Flint students at UM-Flint, including the Flint Promise, scholarship opportunities, Go Blue Guarantee, and other initiatives to welcome and support them in alignment with the goals of the DEI Strategic Action Plan.

Serve as a liaison with designated schools/partners/ campus departments.

Support all program recruitment efforts, community service, and university events.

Coordinate field trips, college tours and community service events for students.

Data and Assessment

Collect, analyze, and monitor quantitative and qualitative data to consolidate information and support program wide data management.

Identify missing data and follow through with collection and/or clarifications.

Assist with developing and implementing meaningful, manageable, and sustainable assessment plans for delivered workshops and assigned assignments.

Routinely collect data to provide to the database management staff member.

Communicate with database management staff member for appropriate task regarding data collection, entry and assessment.

Peer Mentoring

Engage in pre-college and college level program participants though an individualized, holistic peer mentoring model.

Compile campus and community resources to effectively respond to student needs.
 

Required Qualifications*

Currently enrolled at UM-Flint.

Strong Interpersonal Skills.

Demonstrated commitment in serving underrepresented students.

Passionate in supporting student success.

Prior work experience with middle school to adult students.

Resume and Cover letter to explain interest in role and key experiences that demonstrate position qualifications.
Completed at least 1 year at UM-Flint and minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA.

Prior experience working with middle school to adult students linked to college motivation, confidence building, and postsecondary success.

Must exercise a strengths-based approach in being sensitive, respectful, and understanding of the need of economically and academically disadvantaged, ethnically diverse students.

Ability to think critically and problem solve swiftly and responsibly.

Ability to maintain a professional appearance and character.

Desired Qualifications*

Prior experience in designing workshops and student engagement activities.

Data Management experience.

Graphic design and social networking skills.

Experience working in an office setting.

Prior experience in educational program services in areas such as: monitoring/follow-up, student services delivery, instruction, counseling and advising, social work, financial aid counseling, career and vocational advising and placement.
