Responsibilities*

CVC-5 is a 16 bed intermediate care unit that provides care to Cardiovascular Surgery and Interventional Cardiology patients. The unit has a family centered approach surrounding education and resources and provides private rooms for all patients. Nurses care for patients with titratable drips, arterial lines and cardiac monitoring.

The Cardiovascular ICU (CVC 5) is a 8-bed adult intensive care unit caring for patients who have recently undergone cardiac, thoracic, or vascular surgery. This unit specializes in coronary artery bypass, heart and lung transplantation, heart valve repair, ventricular assist devices and esophageal procedures as well as carotid re-vascularization and aneurysm repairs. 

DUTIES: 

Provides professional nursing leadership and administrative direction for the departments of CVC-5 Intermediate Care Unit and the CVC-5 Cardiovascular ICU.  Participates as a member of leadership teams to provide and continually improve health care services and to support the mission and goals of Michigan Nursing Services, and the Health System.

The CVC 5 Clinical Nursing Supervisor job summary:

  • To assist the department Clinical Nursing Director in planning, coordinating and managing clinical and administrative operations.  
  • To provide leadership in the practice of nursing, emphasizing quality patient care, service, education and research.  
  • To assist in coordinating between management and patient care activities consistent with the University of Michigan Hospital/Michigan Medicine mission and goal statements. 
  • To assist in managing budgets, payroll, commodities, staffing/scheduling, hiring and staff reviews. 
  • The Clinical Nurse Supervisor will participate in new program development and implementation; plan, organize and evaluate patient care standards guidelines and educational activities; and monitor and implement the continuous quality improvement programs. 
  • This position reports directly to the Clinical Nursing Director.
  • 24/7 Accountability for the unit.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current licensure as a nurse in the state of Michigan.
  • Required Educational Requirement: Applicant must meet one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing OR Master’s degree in Nursing
  • Minimum five (5) years RN experience
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent (within the last 5 years) cardiovascular nursing experience

  • Ability to work effectively with Administrators, Nurse Managers, Physicians, Peers, Subordinates, and other UMHS departments and groups.
  • Ability to assess, interpret, and analyze clinical information independently and collaboratively
  • Computer competency including Word, Excel, and be able to extract data from University supported computer data bases. 
  • Nursing leadership experience, to include: charge nurse, team leader, professional development framework, or other management/ supervisory experience. 
  • Committee membership experience

 

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: 40 hours
Shift: Predominately days however off shifts and weekends will be required.
Location: Cardiovascular Center-CVC 5, Adult Intermediate Cardiovascular Unit and CVC 5, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
