Job Summary

Primary responsibilities are to conduct the University of Philharmonia Orchestra and Contemporary Directions Ensemble. Additional duties may include the direction of Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra. The appointee will be expected to: demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence; create an innovative curriculum for a broad range of students of varied identities and backgrounds who seek to explore a range of educational opportunities and career pathways; recruit and retain students of exceptional promise; and develop and maintain a visible national and international profile as a conductor and a pedagogue. The appointee will also be expected to: participate in faculty governance; attend faculty meetings; serve on faculty and University committees as appropriate.

Required Qualifications*

Demonstrable musical artistry, ability to educate and inspire student musicians. Significant knowledge of repertoire requisite to the position. Commitment to nurturing a broad range of students of diverse identities and experiences, as demonstrated through pedagogy, service, and activities; demonstrated expertise and experience in teaching by having presented master classes, maintained private studios, and/or served as a faculty member at institution(s) of higher learning. Demonstrable potential for building, leading, and programming of contemporary music ensembles. D.M.A. or commensurate professional experience required.
