Job Summary

The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) provides students an opportunity to work as research assistants on faculty-generated projects. UROP awards students stipends of up to $1000 are available during the Fall funding cycle. Students are paid bi-weekly, at $15/hr. Student assistants report directly to the faculty mentor on pre-approved research projects. If available, work-study funding and/or faculty supplemental funding (grants, department funding, etc) may also be used to fund UROP projects. 

Required Qualifications*


UROP placements will ONLY be given to UM-Flint undergraduate students who have successfully applied to a project via InfoReady ( before Friday, October 1, 2021 AND have been accepted as an assistant by a faculty project sponsor.

Additionally, qualified applicants are REQUIRED to do the following:

  1. Participate in a virtual UROP orientation
  2. Apply online to this job posting at
  3. Obtain certification in the “Responsible Conduct of Research & Scholarship Training” module in PEERRS
  4. Complete the Sexual Harrassment and Misconduct training module
  5. Complete All HR requirements including the I-9 process and background check consent.
  6. (Once placed on a project) Submit a progress report via InfoReady after the term is completed.

Background Screening

The University of Michigan conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background checks. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Application Deadline

This posting is for Spring/Summer UROP only. UROP stipends will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

The deadline for apply for projects in InfoReady is Friday, October 1, 2021. If selected, the last day to apply to this posting for the Fall term is Friday, December 10, 2021.
