The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Adult EKG ACU is currently seeking an EKG Technician for their busy EKG Department. The selected incumbent will record the action of the heart muscle through the use of an electrocardiograph or heart monitoring equipment for the use in the diagnosis of the heart ailments, to include Holter monitoring, Event monitor and Pacemaker Telemetry. This position is located in the Cardiovascular Center with coverage to extend to any Medical Campus building, specifically, University Hospital (Main and South buildings), the CVC and Taubman Health Center.

Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Recording and processing electrocardiographs obtained on the inpatient and outpatient population.
- Explain test procedures to patients and instruct patients on proper positioning during the test.
- Assist in the preparing of EKG interpretations and reports.
- Review recordings to be sure that all tracings are clear and to detect any gross abnormalities that should be brought to the attention of a physician.
- Respond to cardiac arrest calls and provide EKG information to other members of the arrest team.
- Apply and remove Holter monitor recorders to patients for 24 or 48 hour recording of heart rhythm and event recorders to patients for up to 30 day recordings. Upload recorded information into the system. Patient education to be required.
- Participate in in-service instruction in cardiology and electrocardiogram interpretation.
- Assist in logging, filing, and necessary paperwork, related to electrocardiogram storage and retrieval.
- Replenish supplies, maintain cleanliness of technical equipment, and report equipment malfunctions.
- Minimum of 3 months or greater of exposure to EKG, Holter, and Event monitor services.
- High school graduation with coursework in the physical and biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.
- BCLS certification is required.
- Experience in independent decision making for patients with various cardiac diseases.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communications (written and verbal) skills are required and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a care team with the goal of service excellence and patient family centered care.
- Positive, can-do attitude, must be a great team player.
- Certification from a Cardiac Credentialed organization.
- Experience in EKG interpretation is recommended.
- Satisfactory completion of college courses in the physical and biological sciences is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with continuous quality improvement.
- Wide variety of computer skills including MiChart, MUSE, Word, Excel and various outside vendor websites.
- Knowledge of the University of Michigan Hospital Nursing policies and practice.
- Demonstrated accountability/dependability as evidenced, for example, by a stellar attendance record; by completion of mandatories and unit based competencies within an established time frame; by meeting deadlines and completing required work.
