We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Clinical Pharmacist Specialist in Pediatric Infectious Diseases.  The successful candidate will join a leading Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) as we expand to better serve our patients.  The ASP works to improve the overall management of specific infectious diseases, and promotes better patient care and compliance with national quality measures

Basic Function and Responsibility

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and contributing to antimicrobial stewardship activities and initiatives as part of an interdisciplinary team; ensuring and promoting the safe, rational, efficacious and cost-effective use of drug therapy in patients, in particular pediatric antimicrobial therapy; and supporting the 3 aspects of the Mission: patient care/service, education, and research/scholarly endeavors.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Participation in disease-based antimicrobial stewardship activities and restricted antimicrobial management, rounding with an infectious diseases service, and expansion of current antimicrobial stewardship services


Developing guidelines and policies

Supporting education by serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students, and assisting in education and training for staff, residents, and students, and providing drug information and education to patients and caregivers

Developing quality improvement processes and assisting in the development, implementation and monitoring of clinical pharmacy practices consistent with the Health Systems needs and objectives.

Supporting other clinical pharmacy activities, including but not limited to: active participation in multidisciplinary rounds; designing, implementing and monitoring 

patient-specific pharmacotherapy, including pharmacokinetic support, nutrition support and anticoagulation management; and documenting patient care activities.

Leading drug use projects, cost reduction/management initiatives, and quality improvement activities consistent with the Health Systems needs and objectives.

Participating in Michigan Medicine committee(s) related to the care of patients

Individual or collaborative scholarly/research activity is encouraged

Local and National Professional Organization Involvement is encouraged

Required Qualifications*

Education/ Training
  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy or Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy with commensurate experience.
  • A certificate of completion from a PGY-2 residency in infectious diseases, infectious diseases fellowship, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is necessary. 
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan (including a Controlled Substance license), or eligibility to become licensed within 90 days of employment start date.
  • Ability to perform a variety of manual dexterity movements, including keyboarding. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in clinical pharmacy practice is desired.
  • Experience as a clinical pharmacist specialist in  pediatric infectious diseases and/or antimicrobial stewardship is desired

Work Schedule

This schedule for this position includes day shift with a weekend and holiday rotation.

Background Screening
