Job Summary

We are looking for a dynamic, detail-oriented Network Planning Analyst to join our Network team to support the implementation and operations of an enterprise class network. You should be able to work independently and with teams as well as have the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to groups with diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds. We ask that you have a understanding of enterprise network hardware and you are able to support the end-user community with demonstrated skills in establishing and building trusted relationships with a varied customer base.

What You'll Do

  • The network operations team provides network services, infrastructure and security to the University of Michigan - Flint students and staff.
  • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts and practices of field of specialization. Provide technical assistance and resolution for network problems that may arise.
  • You have a broad knowledge of principles and practices of field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments.
  • You will report to the Senior Network Architect and will oversee network operations to install and administer the networking infrastructure. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.
  • You will Install, plan and evaluate performance of network systems and make recommendations for improvement/upgrades.

Responsibilities*

  • Maintain existing network infrastructure. This includes switching, routing, wireless, firewalls and vpns; both onsite and remote locations.
  • Grow existing software management tools and documentation of networks, applications and hardware.
  • Maintain existing IPAM (DHCP/DNS/NTP) infrastructure.
  • Support the existing fiber infrastructure on and around campus.
  • Help configure the network environment, tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Support wireless technologies.
  • Support Radius or other network policy servers.
  • Develop and monitor policies for using network resources.
  • Monitor network to ensure optimal performance
  • Create technical support documentation for systems.

Required Qualifications*

Senior Level

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least 5 years of relevant networking experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience managing networking equipment.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience configuring networking equipment such as firewalls, routers, switches, VPN's and wireless.
  • Evidence of a networking foundation built upon managing medium to large enterprise networks, supporting multiple standards.
  • The ability to evaluate and make recommendations regarding vendor-supplied hardware and software

Required Qualifications*

Intermedite Level

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with at least 3 years of relevant networking experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing networking equipment.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience configuring networking equipment such as firewalls, routers, switches, VPN's and wireless.
  • Evidence of a networking foundation built upon managing medium to large enterprise networks, supporting multiple standards.
  • The ability to evaluate and make recommendations regarding vendor-supplied hardware and software

Desired Qualifications*

  • Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts including switching and routing.
  • Juniper Network Certifications – JNCIA, JNCIS
  • Palo Alto, Juniper or Fortinet firewalls
  • Pulse Secure VPN's
  • DNS, DHCP, NTP
  • Radius, Freeradius or Microsoft Network Policy Server experience
  • Proficiency with scripting languages including Python, Ansible and API's.
  • Some computer-related technical writing experience
  • Ipv4/IPv6 network stacks
  • VXLAN/EVPN
