Job Summary

As a key member of the ISD marketing and communications team, this position develops and executes marketing and communications activities for all program and partnership initiatives across ISD’s portfolio.  The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, creative, collaborative, well-rounded professional with a strong background in implementing effective and innovative strategies; has experience working with diverse global audiences across multiple communications channels; and who brings a dedication to quality and customer service that will ensure communications and marketing efforts are at the highest level.  



Overall Marketing & Communications (70%):

  • Analysis:  Support the analysis of marketing and communications needs, and trend and market analysis for new and existing ISD initiatives.
  • Strategies:  Collaborate in the development of ISD’s marketing and communications plans and strategies for both internal and external audiences, including branding, strategic messaging, media design, websites, social media, promotional activities, digital and traditional marketing, print collateral, media relations, public relations, photo/video media, etc.
  • Initiatives:  Create, implement, and manage multiple marketing and communications initiatives and campaigns to meet organizational and audience needs, including identifying and implementing appropriate delivery methods. 
  • Content Development:  Pro-actively research, create, and edit original content on a wide range of ISD activities and participants for all delivery modes including traditional, digital, print, press releases, presentations, signage, exhibit and event materials, newsletters, advertising, etc.
  • Websites:  Work collaboratively with other team members on the development, implementation, and management of ISD websites.  In addition to an effective content strategy, includes collaboratively addressing planning, processes, design, optimization, analytics, templates, etc.
  • Project Management:  Utilize management tools and systems to:
    • Maintain and implement appropriate content editorial calendars for all channels to ensure a steady flow of original and curated content to various audiences.
    • Create, maintain, and implement intake, management, tracking, and review systems for marketing and communications initiatives. 
    • Track data and analyze the effectiveness and return on investment of marketing and communications activities, and provide recommendations for strengthening approaches.
  • Assist in researching, developing, compiling, and editing materials in various formats (i.e. reports, presentations).
  • Work closely with other team members in the coordination and implementation of marketing and communication efforts with other ISD activities such as recruiting, seminars & conferences, partnership engagement, fund development, and alumni outreach.
  • Work collaboratively to ensure multimedia coverage of ISD events and activities.

Social Media & Digital Marketing: (15%)

  • Create, implement, manage, and evaluate ISD social media and digital marketing initiatives and campaigns.
  • Research, create, and edit original ISD stories and digital content for websites, social media, email marketing, digital newsletters, etc.
  • Manage paid digital marketing initiatives, and make on-going recommendations to increase effectiveness and optimize performance based on analytics.
  • Track digital marketing, website, and social media analytics; analyze the effectiveness of efforts, and make recommendations for improvement based on the analysis.
  • Manage ISD digital editorial and other calendars, email groups, and other resources as relevant.

Media, Public Relations, and Engagement: (10%)

  • Assist supervisor in developing and maintaining relationships with appropriate media partners and outlets
  • Collaborate on ISD participation in internal and external conferences, educational/career fairs, trade shows, and other networking or informational events; may attend relevant events to assist in promoting ISD initiatives.
  • Maintain an awareness of communication activities in other departments in the college, establish networking relationships with peer communicators, and maintain awareness of related news and events across the university.

Overall Strategic Implementation: (5%)

  • Assist in the development and monitoring of marketing and communications activity budgets and resources.
  • Actively assist in ensuring a positive team atmosphere, supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, and ensuring an inclusive, welcoming, and professional environment that reflects ISD, college, and university values.
  • Pro-actively make suggestions for implementing best practices in departmental processes. 
  • Provide back-up support for other ISD related staff positions as needed.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

Technical skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field.  
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in communications/marketing.
  • Excellent communications skills as demonstrated by an original and innovative portfolio of work. 
  • Demonstrated excellent and significant professional experience developing and writing high quality original content for a wide variety of delivery channels as well as editing the communication work of others, and utilizing best practice standards.
  • Significant professional experience developing and executing marketing and communications strategies for internal and external audiences utilizing a full range of traditional, multi-media, and digital channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate technical information to a non-technical audience, and to present information from a variety of voices.
  • Professional experience with paid marketing channels and technologies (Google AdWords, other advertising, etc.). 
  • Professional experience in social media and digital marketing management.
  • Experience in using web-based tools and technologies such as Google Analytics, other media analytics, Constant Contact, etc.
  • Strong experience in writing for the web and utilizing SEO optimization.
  • Professional working knowledge of branding development and standards, style guidelines, digital and print collateral requirements, and related processes.
  • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google applications (Gmail, calendar, drive, docs), Adobe Acrobat, Dropbox, and other business tools and systems in a PC environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to seek and incorporate feedback to ensure the highest quality, accuracy, and clarity of communications.
  • General experience and skills in photography and videography preferred.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in a higher education setting preferred.
  • An awareness of engineering or similar fields is a plus.
