The need for global solutions to environmental, social, and economic challenges is greater than ever. The Center for Sustainable Systems (CSS), celebrating its 30th anniversary, is a permanent center within the School for Environment and Sustainability at the University of Michigan. CSS is seeking a highly motivated professional to lead the administrative support of the Center. The selected candidate will be an enthusiastic team-oriented individual who will share in the goal of accelerating just energy transitions and climate solutions.
This position will provide support for the Director, core CSS faculty, research staff and student researchers and will work closely with administrative staff and offices within the School for Environment and Sustainability. This person is expected to be very forward-thinking, and independent in their work and decision making.

Provide administrative support to CSS director, core faculty and research staff while coordinating and working closely with SEAS administrative offices.
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders related to Center research, education and outreach activities. Manage content and maintain websites (css.umich.edu, ess.umich.edu) with support from SEAS Communications office.
Oversee CSS office operations, space and equipment in partnership with SEAS Faculties and IT. Assist the Director and core faculty in hiring student research staff/
Assist in monitoring CSS core accounts and budget with SEAS Business Office. Assist in Center strategic planning (five year plans) and tracking and annual reporting of progress and impact.
Organize events including seminars and external advisory board meetings including assistance with publicity, agendas, and scheduling.
Assist in management and production of the CSS Sustainability Factsheet collection which is updated each year.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Relevant work experience and interest in environmental issues and topics related to sustainability
Strong organizational, computer and communication skills (written/verbal)
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks independently or within a team
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to foster a inclusive, supportive and productive research community
Proficiency in web development tools and applications (especially Drupal)
Technical writing experience
Social media experience
Environmental studies or science background
