Job Summary

The SABER unit in the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan runs clinical trials of new drugs and other therapies. We are in the midst of a multi-year IT systems rebuilding process, supporting both legacy systems and our platform of the future. Focus of this position is design and enhancement of the new system. We are looking for an experienced business analyst who will lead analysis and design of our clinical study application platform. You have meaningful experience in both workflow and visual design. You are able to catch on to complex systems quickly. While this is not primarily a graphic design position, you have skills in this area; be prepared to show and tell. 

You will lead analysis and design, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams consisting of: end users (and their proxies), development team members, lead architect and product owner. You will define requirements, design and document solutions, work with the dev team to fine-tune implementations, and coordinate UAT of finished products. You will report to the Software Development Lead. 

 

Responsibilities*

  • Analyze and (re)define business processes
  • Capture high-level requirements in bullet form
  • Design new and improve existing application workflows using graphics and text to provide just enough detail for construction of solutions
  • Establish high-level user stories for dev team, and fill in details
  • Design highly efficient, functional, and attractive user experiences
  • Help test and validate new functionality
  • Train users on operation of systems
  • Accept input from team while also forming independent decisions

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in IT or design, or equivalent experience
  • Progressive experience designing web-based applications
    • Senior level: 7+ years experience
    • Intermediate level: 4+ years of experience
  • Experience guiding teams efficiently toward goals
  • Experience documenting complicated systems and scenarios
  • Experience conceptualizing creative solutions to complex workflow requirements
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Word and Excel

Desired Qualifications*

Preference may be given to applicants with a background in clinical research, graphic design, software development, or Agile experience.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The level of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate's qualifications. Please note the salary ranges for each classification:

Senior: $77,373 - $95,579

Intermediate: $60,112 - $74,256
