Job Summary

The University of Michigan North Campus Children's Center has openings for Associate Teachers in our Reggio Emilia inspired program. We are looking for Associate Teachers for our toddler, preschool and outdoor preschool classrooms.  Immediate and start dates as late as January 2022 available.  

The North Campus Children's Center is one of three early childhood programs on the U-M Ann Arbor campus providing care for children from 3 months to 5 years of age. Our centers provide care for close to 500 children of faculty, staff and students from all over the world. The centers employ over 120 staff members, as well as undergraduate student assistants. The play based, Reggio Emilia inspired curriculum at the North Campus Children's Center is designed by teaching teams adapting to meet the needs and interestes of the children. Each classroom's teaching team includes a teacher and two associate teachers along with U-M practicum students. We maintain low teacher to child ratios so relationships can flourish. We are looking for professional teachers who are excited about the prospect of working with children, families and coworkers from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities. We are looking for teachers who are eager to grow in their profession, and who can contribute their creativity and experiences in a collaborative manner. Professional development opportunities are provided regularly. Tuition assistance for furthering formal education in early childhood education is available pending funding. Staff report directly to the center Director.

For the Outdoor Preschool classroom, we are looking for someone to help faciliate children's wonder and learning in the outdoors in all weather, year round.  The class spends the majority of their day outdoors, in an area adjacent to the center.  The goal of our outdoor preschool class is to support children in developing a personal relationship with nature.  Through this relationship, children learn about the natural world and become stewards of nature.

Required Qualifications*

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers or preschoolers in a group setting. 
  • Ability to work closely with a team to develop classroom curriculum and foster positive relationships with children, families and coworkers.

Additional Information

Other requirements include: 

  • Ability to move, hold and position oneself when interacting with children and objects up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to interact and move around with children in such a way as to fully participate in classroom activities.
  • Ability to supervise and interact with children outdoors for extended periods of varied weather conditions.
