The Society for Improving Medical Professional Learning (SIMPL) is looking for software engineers to join a growing team building the next generation of software to improve surgery and patient outcomes. At SIMPL you will be the primary engineer for our iOS applications, focusing on development, deployment and integration with back-end services. You will work alongside a team of engineers, product designers, and support staff to ship real product features to thousands of users globally. We’re looking for creative, enthusiastic individuals who can work autonomously with a high degree of quality and craftsmanship.

Organized as a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, the SIMPL collaborative now encompasses over 175 medical residency training programs in 19 different specialties in 3 countries, all of whom share a common vision to support continuous improvement in the medical education system. We are a small non-profit that lives within the hiring system of the University of Michigan, which allows our team to have the flexibility of a small company with the benefits package of a global leader in higher education.   • Design and build mobile applications for Apple’s iOS platform as well as the backend services to support their operation.
  • Contribute to the design and development of the mobile back end infrastructure to support application operation.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers and marketing to define app features.
  • Write and test code to ensure compatibility, quality and stability.
  • Publish iOS application(s) to the App Store, managing the deployment and release process.
  • Maintain high code quality over time to ensure the application is maintainable in the long term.
  • Contribute to team processes such as code reviews, quality assurance, sprint reviews, stand-ups and release management.

Required Qualifications*

Senior Level

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
  • 7 to 10 years of increasingly complex business programming experience in a business environment is required
  • Proven experience as an app developer on the iOS platform (1+ years).
  • Experience with iOS frameworks and APIs (1+ years).
  • Experience with the Swift programming language (1+ years).
  • Familiarity with Objective-C, Swift-UI, Xcode and the Apple development ecosystem (1+ years).
  • Knowledge of Apple’s design principles and application interface guidelines.
  • Proficient in code versioning tools (git, github, etc).
  • Organizational and self-management skills. Familiarity with project management and team collaboration software.

Lead Level

  • Same as Sr level but with 2 yrs experience in each platform or programming

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Familiarity with AWS services and serverless architecture.
  • Familiarity with relational and document store databases.
  • An awareness of current issues affecting the industry and its technologies.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
