Job Summary:
Be familiar with UM policies and procedures and assure awareness and compliance; interpret and provide information related to University policies and business procedures to MBGNA staff and leadership; represent the MBGNA to other University units and outside parties with authority to make financial and operational commitments; resolve operating problems, employee complaints and grievances; serve on University committees. This position will work proactively in a dynamic unit and be
able to work independently and interactively as part of a team. You will report to the Director of Matthaei Botanical Gardens & Nichols Arboretum.

Partner with the Director to develop long-range planning and strategic operations; provide budgeting and expense projections; establish controls to maintain budget oversight; review business transactions for compliance with relevant policies and regulations and provide unit authorization for these transactions; manage all research (including external grant funding), operating (general fund), discretionary, designated, recharge, and endowment funds including the implementation of fiscal
policies and procedures; maintain budget policies set forth by MBGNA leadership; advise the Director and other unit leadership regarding optimal uses of financial resources for planning and management; and work with the Provost Office support areas to prepare special budget and financial reports with statistical analysis where required.

Evaluate MBGNA’s staffing needs; facilitate the successful performance and continuous development of staff; coordinate the work of staff, providing leadership in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with support for professional development; approve job descriptions positions; review positions for
appropriate classification and compensation level; provide oversight for procedures related to recruitment, appointment, review, retention, and promotion; work collaboratively with Provost Office Human Resources; assist and provide guidance to the Directors and unit leaders regarding Human
Resources; and manage MOUs and other agreements with partners and affiliated groups.

Provide leadership and oversight for MBGNA’s regular and deferred maintenance, and long-range facilities and space utilization planning across unit properties, facilities, and lands; manage, plan and coordinate facilities use and renovation with MBGNA Facilities colleagues and leadership; and approve
annual space surveys.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five+ years of progressively responsible administrative responsibilities focused on financial and human resources in a medium sized organization.
  • Five+ years of experience supervising, mentoring and professionally developing a variety of staff.
  • Five+ years of financial management skills in budgeting and expense reporting;
  • Five+ years of experience developing a highly interactive and collaborative team environments;
  • Experience with complex business systems and databases related to research administration, finance and human resources.
  • Knowledge of UM policies and procedures.

Additional Information

  • The salary range for this position is $80,000-$87,500.
