Summary

The ATHINA Lab in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellow using cognitive neuroscience techniques to explore the effects of head impacts on neurocognitive function in samples of current and former athletes.

Responsibilities*

Primary responsibilities will involve analyzing data and preparing publications using neuroimaging and cognitive data from large representative samples of children (e.g., Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study, Human Connectome Project – Development) or a large sample of collegiate athletes (the CARE Consortium data). The position is in-person, and is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Opportunities for participation in ongoing data collection efforts and secondary data analysis of other large datasets are also available.

Required Qualifications*

The fellow is expected to have a record of accomplishment in cognitive neuroscience or concussion research, as evidenced by publications, training, and coursework. The fellow should have career goals within the field of cognitive aging or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), as demonstrated by research training and interests. Qualifications include a doctoral degree in psychology, kinesiology, neuroscience, or a related field, and applicants are expected to have met all doctoral requirements before the start of the fellowship.

Desired Qualifications*

Ideally, candidates will have experience processing and analyzing structural and/or functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data, and coding in linux/R/matlab, however this is not a requirement.

Additional Information

The position provides salary consistent with current levels for NIH postdoctoral fellows and is fully benefits-eligible. The appointment is expected to be renewed annually for at least two years, with the possibility of extension. Start date as early as Summer 2023.
