Summary
The Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center (MADC) is seeking a full-time Data Analyst/Programmer to join its Data Management and Statistical Core (Data Core) team. The Data Core functions as the primary “integrator” between the Center’s Cores; data collected from Cores and Center-supported studies pass through Data Core to be cleaned, joined, disseminated, and analyzed to investigators. The on-site location is at the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center, 2101 Commonwealth Blvd, Suite A, Ann Arbor, MI, where there is free staff parking. Work is primarily remote.
Center hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Flexible work schedules are possible.
This position is under the leadership of the MADC Data Core Leader, Manager, and senior research administrative staff. The individual will report directly to the MADC Data Systems Manager. The characteristic duties and responsibilities of this position may evolve over time to match changing needs and priorities.
The successful MADC Data Analyst/Programmer will balance multiple projects simultaneously and see those projects through to completion both independently and as part of the larger Core and Center. Familiarity with statistical and programming concepts is essential and the successful applicant with demonstrate critical thinking/problem-solving. Strong communication skills, desire for professional growth, and ability to work as a team member are requisite for this position.
Responsibilities*
Responsibilities Intermediate Level:
- Read/write multiple programming languages, especially: R, Python, Bash/Command Line, SQL, SAS, and SPSS
- Assist Data Systems Manager in establishing Data Pipelines
- Independently develop schemas for data automation, audits, and transfers between systems
- Document all work carefully
- Decipher error messages and troubleshoot independently
- Summarize, interpret, and present results in written, tabular and visual formats to the Core, Center, National Alzheimer’s Coordinating Center, and other opportunities as relevant, especially using Tableau
- Other duties as directed
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary
Responsibilities Associate Level
- Read/write multiple programming languages, especially: R and SQL
- Decipher error messages and troubleshoot as part of a team
- Summarize, interpret, and present results in written, tabular, and visual formats, especially: Tableau
- Review code/syntax
- Other duties as directed
- Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as necessary
Required Qualifications*

- Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, information, or related field
- Confident and highly motivated
- Eagerness to learn new tasks and skills
- Strong communication skills (Verbal and Written) and documentation skills
- Work both independently and as part of a team
- Relevant experience with the following:
- Working with sensitive data
- Data transformations (e.g., re-shaping, joining)
- Tabularizing descriptive statistics (e.g., central tendency, dispersion)
- Comparing groups/correlating
- Statistical models (e.g., linear regression)
Required Qualifications Associate Level
- Bachelor’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, information, or related field
- Confident and highly motivated
- Eagerness to learn new tasks and skills
- Strong communication skills (Verbal and Written) and documentation skills
- Work both independently and as part of a team
- Relevant experience with the following:
- Data transformations (e.g., re-shaping, joining)
- Tabularizing descriptive statistics (e.g., central tendency, dispersion)
Desired Qualifications*
- • Working with sensitive data
- • Experience with RESTful API and REDCap
- • Experience with automating scripts through Cron, Apache Airflow, or Microsoft Power Automate
- • Experience with Dropbox and Microsoft Office 365 (including SharePoint), especially Developer Tools
- • Experience with Git and GitHub-like repositories
- • Demonstrated participation in peer-reviewed work (e.g., Authorship, Acknowledgement)
- • Experience with project management

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
