Post-Doctoral Positions in Pharmacology at the University of Michigan

We are currently seeking Post-Doctoral Fellows with strong technical skills in preclinical and cellular models of drug abuse, and a broader interest in the science of drug addiction, for positions with Dr. Emily Jutkiewicz and/or Dr. John Traynor.  Projects are related to the development of medications for pain and the management of opiate abuse. The selected candidates may be eligible for our NIH interdisciplinary training grant on the Biology of Drug Abuse.

The Jutkiewicz and Traynor laboratories within the Department of Pharmacology are focused on (1) using behavioral pharmacology assays to understand the analgesic and abuse-related effects of drugs on physiology and behavior, (2) designing novel medications for the management of pain and as medications for opioid abuse and (3) evaluating mechanisms of action at the molecular and behavioral level. The Department of Pharmacology has an active group of drug abuse researchers that is complemented by addiction researchers in the wider University of Michigan community. The successful candidates will have strong communication skills and clear technical expertise, with a focus on either in vitro (e.g., expression analysis, Western blots, signaling and receptor binding assays) or in vivo (e.g., operant behavior, locomotor activity) models. An ability to integrate in vivo and in vitro findings will be an advantage.

Required Qualifications*

  • Candidates will have completed an MD or Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., biochemistry, pharmacology, neuroscience, biological psychology, physiology etc.).
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the US to be appointed to the NIH interdisciplinary training grant on the Biology of Drug Abuse.

Background Screening
