This is a student summer internship position with Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichols Arboretum. The Peony Data and Image Intern will work with the Curator and other key staff to gain experience in a special-collection's data, image, and web-linked interfaces. Using the still-new Peony Garden website structure, this intern will manage the data and image synchronization so that the site is up to date, process-documented, and with a defined task list for completion. The internship program runs May 6 through late August.

  • Work with Curator, Marketing and Communications Manager, and research scientists to confirm the current locations and naming protocols of the target data and image sets and develop the transition schema to organize (and when necessary, rename) for the target system.
  •  Work with our Bonsai web site to be as close to parallel in data structure and management as possible.
  • Work with our new Records staff person to assist with any records needing copying for that purpose.
  • Work with the Curator and team assembled for interpretive and inventory outputs.

Required Qualifications*

  • Graduated high school and currently enrolled in a college/university by the internship start date of May 6, 2024, or a December 2023 or spring 2024 college or university graduate.
  • Experience in data management
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Able to communicate with the team, especially if a process or task is unclear or not progressing as anticipated (for troubleshooting)

Additional Information

  • In-person and remote work,
  • 40 hours/week for 16 weeks from May to the end of August.
  • Potential to continue part-time through Fall term and may renew in Winter term.
