This position is open to students of all academic standing.
Job Summary
The intern will work under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor as well as other faculty and staff of Biology, Chemistry & Biochemistry. The intern will be responsible for receiving packages, stocking materials, performing stockroom inventory counts, maintaining an organized stockroom area, testing emergency response equipment, assisting with safety audits, and other duties as needed.
Responsibilities*
- Clean/organize teaching lab and stockroom areas
- Receive and deliver packages
- Stock consumable materials in teaching labs
- Perform stockroom inventory counts
- Verify the integrity of chemical storage conditions
- Perform general maintenance on equipment such as light cleaning
- Collection of hazardous waste, chemical and/or biohazardous
- Safety equipment inspections
- Check and restock first aid kits
- Perform other stockroom or safety-related tasks as needed
Required Qualifications*
- Currently enrolled UM-Flint student
- Eager to learn laboratory and chemical management safety procedures
- Be able to work both independently and with a team
- Strong communicator
- Quick learner
- Self-Motivated
