Job Summary

The University of Michigan Department of Epidemiology has a challenging and rewarding opportunity available for a responsible, organized, and motivated individual to join our team studying respiratory illnesses (including covid-19 and influenza). This person will be responsible for assisting with a number of tasks related to participant enrollment, sample management, and electronic health record (EHR) data review/entry in addition to data management tasks. These tasks include: Participant enrollment, scheduling appointments, answering questions over email and/or phone, placing laboratory orders in MiChart, and entering data into study databases. Data management tasks will involve use of SAS or R, to create reports for sample selection, quality control, and figures/tables for analysis and bimonthly/annual reports. An ideal candidate must be detail oriented with excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities*

  • Primary responsibility will be coordinating tasks with multiple study team members. These tasks include, but are not limited to contacting study participants about enrollment opportunities, obtaining informed consent, and completing data collection forms, ordering labs in MiChart and updating data in OnCore. Communicating with study participants will be by phone and/or email to assist with questions, issues, or scheduling study appointments. Establish standard operating procedures for study data cleaning, storage and reproducibility and rigor. Participate in submission of  bimonthly and annual reports.
  • Coordinate with study staff on general study data issues or submissions in the databases listed above. Working together with the coordination and data management teams, create REDCap reports and use SAS or R to manipulate data into functional reports for data checking, validation, and quality control.
  • Study data entry in REDCap, LabVantage, OnCore, and MiChart. 
  • Troubleshoot issues with biological sample data entry, collection, transport, and testing that occurs at the University of Michigan Pathology labs. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor degree public health, social science or related field with coursework in epidemiology and/or biostatistics.
  • 1-3 years of related research experience required.
  • Excellent communication skills through various mediums and demonstration of excellent interpersonal skills are necessary in order to work effectively with participants and study staff.
  • Basic computing skills such as email and Microsoft Office are necessary.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Previous recruitment and enrollment experience
  • Communication with study participants 
  • Data entry/management in RECap 
  • Knowledge and skills working with research projects, including familiarity with quantitative research methods of data collection and analysis preferred
  • Experience with SAS or R are necessary. Experience with MiChart, OnCore, and REDCap are encouraged

Work Locations

All study staff members are eligible to work from home at least 1 day per week. After successfully completing 3 months of training, an assessment will be completed to determine eligibility for working from home for up to 50% of the time. Due to the nature of this work, the selected candidate will need to work from 8 am - 4:30 pm or 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.

Additional Information

This position is term-limited for one year at the start of the appointment, with extension possible depending on funding and performance.
