Job Summary
The Biomedical Research Core Facilities (BRCF), as part of the Medical School's Office of Research (OoR), has an opening in the Proteomics Resource Facility (PRF). Using state-of-the-art instrumentation, the Proteomics Resource Facility team assists researchers in designing proteomic experiments. We provide technical expertise and bioinformatic support during both discovery and validation phases of proteomic experiments in a fee-for-service, cost-effective, and timely manner. We have contributed to over 150 publications, supported numerous successful grant applications, and we are a designated shared resource for the Rogel Cancer Center.

Responsibilities*
- Research and evaluate new sample preparation protocols. These include protocols related, but not limited, to improving methods utilized in bottom-up proteomics (protein digestion, peptide clean-up, etc.), enriching post-translationally modified peptides, and managing sub-nanogram quantities of proteins. Optimize the protocols for sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility, ready to be deployed as a new or updated service offered by the PRF.
- Assist in preparing the samples for analysis using the existing protocols currently deployed at the facility.
- Research and evaluate novel workflows of MS data acquisition and data analysis.
- Assist the team members in routine maintenance of existing equipment to ensure their optimal performance.
- Work as a team member to maintain the laboratory in good working order. Communicate and collaborate effectively to deliver on-time and high-quality results. Provide recommendations to core leadership regarding adopting new platforms.
- Interact with PRF customers to educate them regarding existing technology and equipment capabilities, limitations and outcomes. Other occasional duties include preparing reports and meeting with clients to discuss the reports.
Required Qualifications*
- Master's degree, Ph.D. preferred, in chemistry, biochemistry or equivalent life science discipline.
- 5-6 years of research experience with proteomic technologies or related technologies.
- Strong background in protein chemistry is required.
- Must be proficient in using both vendor-specific and publicly available software tools for MS data analysis.
- Must be meticulous both at the lab bench and with recordkeeping skills.
Desired Qualifications*
Experience with the operations and maintenance of mass spectrometers.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, onsite.
