Summary

Assists the orthotist or prosthetist in performing patient evaluation, casting, measurement and fitting of orthoses or prostheses. Directly or indirectly supervised by an orthotist or prosthetist. Has completed on the job training or one or more of the following: formal Assistant training, formal Technician training, and manufacturer's fitting courses. Is eligible for or has passed the American Board for Certification as an Assistant. This Classification requires registration, certification or licensure with the appropriate agency as identified on the Primary Source Verification Matrix. Under FLSA, incumbents in this position are nonexempt.

Responsibilities*

?         Assist the ABC practitioner in examining and evaluating patients for orthotic and/or prosthetic devices in relation to disease and functional muscle loss.

?         Assist in the assessment and measurement for orthotic and/ or prosthetic devices for factors affecting fit and use.

?         Assist ABC practitioners in determining type, design and specifications for orthoses and/or protheses be used.

?         Assist with the fit of the device in consultation with the ABC practitioner, physician and patient.

?         Provide soft-goods and off-the-shelf fittings and support.

?         Assist practitioners and technicians in the selection of components and materials necessary for fabrication of devices.

?         Assist with modification of plaster molds as requested.

?         Assist with CAD/CAM modifications as requested.

?         Provide instruction to patients in the proper use and care of devices.

?         Assist in determining the repair and maintenance of devices.

?         Participate as a member of the rehabilitation team as requested.

?         Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.

RELATED DUTIES
Perform other related duties as assigned. 


SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received by division clinical/technical director, ABC- certified practitioners and the medical staff. 


SUPERVISION EXCERCISED 
Functional supervision is exercised over students and support staff.   

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients. 

Required Qualifications*

?         High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.  

?         Some experience in Orthotics and Prosthetics is necessary. 

?         Registration as an Orthotist and Prosthetist Clinical Assistant by the American Board for in Orthotics and Prosthetics is necessary. 

Non-Certified:

May just be starting training or has completed on-the-job training and some manufacturer's fitting courses.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Background Screening
