Summary

The applicant will become an integral member of the Parkos-Nusrat research group studying epithelial biology and pathogenesis of mucosal inflammation in the gut. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to perform experiments using a variety of state-of-the-art techniques involving cell biology, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and in vivo animal models. This position offers unique opportunities for ambitious individuals to interact with a diverse group including technicians, graduate students, post-docs, and faculty. This individual will help to maintain and provide primary cells to lab members and assist with executing experiments under the supervision of the laboratory manager and principal investigators.

Responsibilities*

Primary cell culture, molecular cell biology techniques, maintaining databases, and experimental records. Familiarity with basic laboratory instrumentation as well as record keeping is necessary. Other duties may be assigned by the faculty supervisor or manager, including scientific and technical support to ongoing projects.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree in biological science or health sciences and at least one year of research laboratory experience is required.
  • Research lab experience should be in an area relevant to the project, specifically cell culture experience is required, and primary cell culture experience is preferred.
  • Additional lab experience in the areas of molecular biology, molecular genetics, or biochemistry, is preferred and must include a documented ability to proficiently execute routine laboratory techniques.
  • A strong motivation to advance research and laboratory techniques along with the ability to solve problems and develop new research directions is essential. Must be able to take initiative and work well with high expectations.
  • Proficiency in English, strong work ethic, computer (word processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet software), and communication skills as well as the ability to work efficiently in a team are required.
  • A Master's degree and 4 to 5 years of experience in a related field are required for the Intermediate level.
  • A Bachelor's degree and 1 to 3 years of experience in a related field are required for the Associate level.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Proficiency with word processing, power point and spreadsheet software programs are desired. 
  • Willingness to occasionally work unconventional hours to meet deadlines.
  • A minimum of two-year commitment.

Background Screening
