Summary

Assist principal investigator in conducting original research investigating molecular mechanisms involved in the aging of human skin connective tissue with an emphasis on extracellular matrix biology, skin fibroblasts, and the function of matrix metalloproteinases. Current studies focus on the molecular mechanisms of action of dermal fillers and genetically modified mouse models of accelerated skin aging. This position involves analysis of human and mouse skin, mouse breeding, genotyping, and mouse colony maintenance. Strong organizational skills and detailed record-keeping of the mouse colonies are required.

Responsibilities*

Duties primarily include analyses of experimental skin samples using methods such as immunohistology, real-time RT-PCR; bright-field and fluorescence microscopy; image analysis, and cell culture, treatment of mice, harvesting of mouse tissues and mouse colony management. Clear and comprehensive written documentation of all research activities is required.

The ideal candidate will possess attention to detail, excellent writing and verbal communication skills, an ability to work well in a team, and a positive and inquisitive attitude. The candidate will be required to perform literature searches and prepare clear and concise oral and written reports detailing the status of ongoing work, using spreadsheet, word processing, and scientific data computer programs. 

Additional responsibilities include detailed record keeping and organization of data in the areas mentioned above, attention to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the laboratory, and activities related to maintenance of laboratory compliance with University and Federal regulations.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's Degree in biological sciences or related science discipline. 
  • Previous work experience in a research laboratory of 2-3 years. 
  • Computer skills are necessary, such as the use of spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and scientific data analysis programs.
     

Desired Qualifications*

  • Prior experience with imaging and image analysis methodologies and general modern laboratory procedures.
