Summary

An exciting opportunity has been created for an experienced researcher to join the Wilcox Laboratory at the U of M Division of Hem-Onc and the Rogel Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, MI. The individual will join as a Research Lab Tech Intermediate and work as a Lab Technician/Lab Manager, directly with Dr. Ryan Wilcox, Leader of the U of M Lymphoma/Myeloma Section. He/she will be an integral member of a research team whose focus is T-cell lymphomas.


Our laboratory seeks to understand significant drivers in T-cell lymphomagenesis, including the tumor microenvironment's role, in an effort to develop novel therapeutic strategies. We use complementary cell line, genetically engineered mouse models, patient-derived xenograft models, and primary patient specimens. Our goal is to develop and clinically translate novel therapies for the T-cell lymphomas.


This individual will carry out experiments in the laboratory using basic cell and molecular biology techniques, including qPCR, western blotting, cell culture, and will genotype mice from our mouse colonies. This individual will also be responsible for managing laboratory operations, including: regulatory aspects such as IBC and IACUC; equipment maintenance; project management involving sample coordination, shipping, and processing; ordering supplies, inventorying, and unpacking deliveries.

Responsibilities*

  • Orders and stocks supplies, maintains equipment, in charge of submitting and
    maintaining regulatory approvals (IACUC, IRB, IBC) related to our projects.
  • Project management: sample coordination, processing, storage and inventory
    management, and shipping for some studies.
  • Performs cell culture, molecular biology techniques including:
    DNA/RNA/protein extraction, qPCR, and Western blots, etc.
  • Genotypes mice from mouse colony.
  • Additional laboratory duties as assigned by PI

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree (4yr) with major courses in molecular/cell biology (or related fields).
  • 2-3 years working in a laboratory environment post-college.
  • Previous lab management skills are strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety and ability to work carefully with potentially harmful agents.
  • Responsible for ensuring lab documentation is up to date for safety inspections.
  • Prior experience with writing and maintaining IACUC and IBC protocols are strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with mammalian cell culture and with molecular biology techniques such as RT-PCR, western blotting, cloning, and reporter gene analysis is strongly preferred.
  • Rodent handling experience, including injection and/or gavage treatment, while not required, is preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and implement novel experimental techniques.
  • Must be proficient with computers running Windows and PC applications (e.g. MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

Background Screening
