Summary

The Psychological Clinic at the University of Michigan is excited to offer a full-time, 12-month Post-MSW Graduate Fellowship. This is an advanced clinical training program beginning August 19, 2024 and ending August 18, 2025 with an opportunity to extend for a second year. The mission of this Post-MSW graduate training program is to advance practice competency, professionalism, and leadership in the field of clinical social work and is designed for a clinical social worker with a limited license (LLMSW) in the State of Michigan.

Who We Are

The Psychological (Psych) Clinic is a multidisciplinary, multitheoretical, and training-focused outpatient mental health clinic.

Responsibilities*

Our fellowships give MSW graduates further training and experience in evidence-based intervention as they prepare for licensure. Fellows provide direct clinical service with supervision from expert clinicians. They also participate in a core curriculum of seminars and clinical conferences, consult with other professionals, and have the opportunity to engage in community outreach.

Fellows receive training in evidence-based psychotherapy interventions, including individual, group, couples, and family therapy. Supervisory staff have expertise in a range of theoretical orientations including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Mindfulness-based approaches. Infused throughout each internship are the following:

  • Multidisciplinary disciplinary collaboration
  • Multicultural competencies
  • Professional development
  • Legal and ethical knowledge
  • Leadership, supervision, and administrative skills
  • Integrative approaches to psychotherapy

Social work fellows will gain supervised experience with providing diagnostic assessments, case conceptualization, brief and longer-term psychotherapy, case management, and crisis intervention. Fully licensed clinical social workers will primarily supervise social work fellows, with additional supervision provided by licensed psychologists. The fellow will have opportunities to supervise social work students, engage in clinical teaching as a part of a training plan, and develop case conceptualization and clinical intervention skills, which tailor evidence-based clinical practice to individual youth and families with unique identities, histories, and experiences of the world. Issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion will be addressed throughout the fellowship experience.

Required Qualifications*

The Psych Clinic is interested in applicants who have direct clinical experience, in person and via telehealth, using evidence-based interventions with adults in groups and individually.

Eligible applicants must have satisfactorily completed an accredited Social Work Master's Program, hold a Limited License in Social Work in the State of Michigan (LLMSW). A criminal background check must be cleared at the time of hire.

Additional Information

The fellowship offers a stipend of $35,600. Comprehensive health care through University of Michigan is available, along with paid time off and professional development time.
