Summary

The qualified candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care for the patients of the Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Center (CLDC), and to promote the ideals of the CDLC mission statement. The CDLC provides treatment for a wide variety of cosmetic and medical concerns, including acne scarring, sun damage, and fine lines and wrinkles.  The qualified candidate will be trained to float to other clinics within the Department of Dermatology.

Responsibilities*

Direct Patient Care:

  •         Provide direct patient care within the LPN Scope of Practice.
  •         Assist and support clinic operations with patient flow, consents, and procedures.
  •         Obtain relevant patient medical histories, medication histories, and allergy review.
  •         Enter visit and procedure information accurately and efficiently in electronic medical record (EMR).
  •         Assist with procedures and provide post-procedure care instructions. 
  •         Provide laser options discussed by provider and pre/post-care instructions.
  •         Management of symptoms and biopsy results per provider delegation in EMR.
  •         Prescription management.
  •         Prepare clinic medications per delegation agreement with CDLC licensed privileged providers.
  •         Compound medications to include Botox and Kenalog per policy.
  •         Assist with PRP injections - phlebotomy and PRP preparation per guidelines.
  •         Prepare high alert medications (23.4% sodium chloride) and 0.9% sodium chloride for sclerotherapy injections as directed by licensed privileged provider.
  •         Controlled substance inventory, ordering, and daily counts (AM and PM).

Equipment and Supplies:

  • Clean and stock exam rooms.
  • Wash, sanitize, and package instruments.
  • Order supplies.
  • Maintain laser safety goggles and equipment.

Safety and Quality Improvement:

  •         Provide for the safety of self and others by adherence to the hospital's safety guidelines, polices, and practices. Through education of nursing staff and other members of the health care team, help ensure compliance with all such safety-related policies.
  •         Participate in the development of clinic goals and objectives. 
  •         Participate in Quality Improvement initiatives, support implementation of changes. 
  •         Protect patient privacy and provide a secure, comfortable, and welcoming clinical environment. 
  •         Maintain IFU per hospital requirements, update system as needed

Regulatory:

  •             Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. 
  •             Perform yearly media fill challenge with Compliance Compounding team
  •             Maintain mandatories.
  •             Review current nursing and other professional literature per licensing requirements.
  •             Attend appropriate continuing education, staff development programs.

Required Qualifications*

?       Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan.

?       Graduation from an accredited LPN program.

?       Successful completion of a pharmacology course in an accredited program. 

      BLS certification.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Two years (within the last 5 years) as an LPN in an Ambulatory Care Clinic Setting.
  • Recent experience (within the last 5 years) as an LPN in a Dermatology Clinic.
  • Ability to work independently; possess strong organization and prioritization skill; ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment; and have demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Excellent attendance.
  • Individual must exhibit a professional and positive image when interacting with patients, faculty, and staff. Must also adhere to a high standard of personal and professional conduct; possess excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills; and have a demonstrated ability to interact with a diverse population.

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours per week.

Days/Shift Hours: Monday through Friday, Variable hours between 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, flexibility required

Location: Department of Dermatology:  Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Center.  May be expected to float to other Dermatology Clinics as staffing requires.
