Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Nicole Gardner-Neblett in the Department of Psychology seeks to hire a full-time Research Technician Associate. This lab uses quantitative and qualitative methods to examine influences on language and literacy development among young children, with a focus on African American children's storytelling skills. Primary research questions include: What are teachers perceptions of children's oral storytelling skills. How do parents socialize children to tell stories. What cognitive processes support children's storytelling and literacy development.

This would be an excellent position for a recent college graduate seeking to gain additional research experience prior to graduate school. The successful candidate will be reliable, conscientious, organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. This person will also possess excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and demonstrate cultural competence and a commitment to working with racially/ethnically diverse children and families.

Responsibilities*

Administrative tasks include:

  • Managing purchasing of lab supplies; coordinating purchases with research administrator and other administrative staff as needed.
  • Assisting with IRB applications.
  • Managing maintenance of lab equipment, coordinating with support staff as needed to fix equipment issues.

Research tasks include:

  • Conducting literature reviews 
  • Preparing study materials, including recruitment materials and online surveys, for data collection 
  • Managing training of undergraduate research assistants.
  • Acting as study coordinator for research projects
  • Overseeing data processing and management, including processing and coding of behavioral and audiovisual data
  • Assisting in data analysis
  • Supporting collaborations with outside researchers

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or Associate's degree
  • 1 year of experience in a research lab setting

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelors or Master's degree and 1-2 years experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant research, experience with overseeing a research study, some experience with data analysis, experience with qualitative coding using software such as NVivo.
  • Experience working in a psychological lab with behavioral and psychological measures.
  • Experience collecting data with children and families as research participants (e.g., studies of child development in the lab or community). 
  • Experience coding, processing, and managing data using Excel and SPSS, Stata or R. 

Additional Information

The salary range is $31,200 - $33,900. Please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.

This is a 12-month term-limited position with the possibility of renewal. The anticipated start date is June 3rd, 2024.
