Summary

The MAVERIC Collaborative (maveric.umich.edu) drives the research and education endeavors by U-M in the space of automotive semiconductors, supporting growth in the Michigan workforce participating in this industry, attracting talent, and developing a research and innovation eco-system through the research of UM faculty.

The initiatives span a wide range of activities, interacting with future and current industry and government sponsors and collaborators, faculty and industry researchers, and students from the University of Michigan, other institutions, local high schools and community colleges. 

Programs widening participation in engineering are also part of these endeavors, especially with respect to underrepresented student groups. These programs are aligned with the goal of supporting the automotive semiconductors ecosystem, and broadly encourage growth in engineering and STEM disciplines, especially in connection with research activities


 Note: This is a term-limited appointment through December 31, 2028, with possibility of continued funding for additional years.

Responsibilities*

Lead project design and implementation related to the organization of the MAVERIC collaborative, including faculty discussions, proposal preparation, media presence and industry visits. Track data related to the participating faculty and students' activities including employment, grants, recognitions, startup, patents, etc. 

The pool of projects for which the project manager is the primary point of contact, are expected to evolve over time.   As an example, the Project Manager shall support the organization of the MAVERIC's introductory workshops on semiconductors, which provides early exposure to the field for juniors/seniors in high school and junior college students.  Additionally, the MAVERIC collaborative is competing with several new research projects to enable the Department of Defense Microelectronics Commons program (https://news.engin.umich.edu/2023/09/u-michigan-a-partner-in-two-chips-act-midwest-microelectronics-hubs/)  and the MSTAR consortium (https://www.michiganbusiness.org/press-releases/2023/05/global-semiconductor-center/)

A social media and internal/external communication strategy is in the planning stages.  The project manager would be responsible for supporting these activities, collaborating closely with the College of Engineering's Communications team as appropriate. 

The individual in this position will be expected to understand the operational structure of the MAVERIC Collaborative, support the lead team, and contribute new ideas to improve its reach and impact. 

The ideal candidate will also collaborate with the College of Engineering in organizing the hosting of visiting companies and State of Michigan representatives as the University works to contribute to the broader goals of the CHIPS Act. Finally, the ideal candidate will work to gather data for printed and online media materials, leveraging also resources available in the College of Engineering.

The project manager may need to be available for occasional evening and weekend work (approximately once a month) to accommodate workshops and events.  The position reports to Prof. Bertacco, affiliated with the Computer Science and Engineering Division and the Provost's Office.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Bachelor's degree and three or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as a project manager, managing multiple complex projects.
  • Experience with a variety of project management platforms.
  • Proficiency with technical tools, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Powerpoint), Google Suite, Adobe PDF and general communication media apps (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders with a collaborative and customer focused mindset.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills, ability to conveying information efficiently. 
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail, accuracy, diligence, and task focus.
  • Flexibility in adopting software tools as needed to carry out the activities of the Collaborative.
  • Strong commitment to exemplary service, teamwork in a multicultural setting, and the ability to act independently.
  • Experience in organizing events and initiatives that require the collaboration of multiple departments and/or organizations.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Ability to work both independently and as a successful team member. 
  • Experience in advancing multiple concurrent projects and activities.
  • A high-level understanding of the semiconductor and automotive industry's current trends.
  • Experience managing and working with datasets related to students, faculty or research projects, conducting surveys, coordinating (managing resumes, engagements, opportunities, etc.) the efforts of graduate or undergraduate students. 

Work Locations

The Computer Science and Engineering Department operates in a hybrid work environment consisting of both in-person and remote work. This position will be classified as a FLEX position within the Michigan Engineering STARR classification matrix which means working on campus 2-3 days per week and working remotely the rest of the week. Additional Information

Highly qualified candidates who seeks to work at 50% time will also be considered.

A higher salary may be considered for an exceptionally qualified candidate.
