The UM School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Health Sciences is seeking a Research Area Specialist Associate. Responsibilities*

Design and conduct experiments using molecular biology techniques, including organoid culture, high content imaging, quantitative PCR, flow cytometry, and single cell RNA-sequencing. Develop, optimize, and approve new laboratory protocols and experimental procedures. Conduct data analysis and prepare results for publication. Perform literature reviews. Assist with grant and manuscript writing. Meet and communicate with laboratory collaborators. Coordinate sample and data collection and storage from human study participants. Prepare IRB, IACUC, and IBC applications to ensure laboratory regulatory compliance. Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate student researchers. Maintain general laboratory upkeep, including tracking material stocks, ordering supplies, and monitoring budgets. Oversee lab safety efforts and coordinate for safety inspections. Supervises one temporary part-time student worker. 1-3 days per week remote work from home permitted. The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.

Required Qualifications*

Master's degree in Biotechnology, Toxicology, or a closely related biological field + 2 years of related biomedical research experience to include the proficient use of: mammalian cell culture using 2D and 3D methods, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, animal handling, high content image processing and analysis using Cell Profiler, general data analysis using Prism/Excel/R/SAS/Python. Experience with IRB application preparation, continuations, and adverse event reporting. Background check and drug screen required upon offer acceptance.
