Summary

The Health and Retirement Study (HRS) Program is a research program housed within the Survey Research Center (SRC) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR). The HRS program supports multiple research projects surrounding the health and economics of aging (https://hrs.isr.umich.edu/about).

Reporting to the Ancillary Data Manager and working in a team environment, you will work independently and within a team to clean, process, and document data from both core and ancillary data collections for release to the research community under established deadlines. Discretion with confidential data is required.

Responsibilities*

Complex programming and data management; problem identification and resolution

Develop data entry tools and and programs for longitudinal and one-time surveys

Cleaning, format, and standardizing data and documentation

Train and monitor data entry and coding staff

Review summary and descriptive statistical output

Organize your work to meet project deadlines

Communicate in both spoken and written forms, and across multiple mediums

Work with people at all levels of the organization and with external partners

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in social sciences or a related field

2+ years' experience with social science survey research methods

Demonstrated proficiency with relational database, document creation, and spreadsheet software

2+ years' experience with data management tasks (e.g. data entry and cleaning)

2+ years' experience with statistical packages such as SAS or STATA

Ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously with accuracy

Work Locations

Work location is expected to be on-site in Ann Arbor, MI with the option for flexible scheduling for hybrid work within our overall Center guidelines. The first 90-days are required on-site in Ann Arbor, MI.
