Responsibilities*

  • Wheel or carry concrete, brick, stone, sand and other construction materials. 
  • Break-up concrete and asphalt, using air hammers and drills. 
  • Clean up rubble, using shovel, pick, wheelbarrow and broom. 
  • Level and tamp sites in preparation for the pouring of concrete or asphalt. 
  • Erect barricades and place appropriate signals around work sites. 
  • Participate in the mixing, pouring and curing of cement, mortar or plaster. 
  • Remove damaged sections of structures, using hammer, crowbar, scraper and broom. 
  • Load, unload and drive trucks in the transportation of construction materials and wastes. Clean and assist in the repair and installation of catch, basins, storm sewers and drain systems. Unplug clogged drains. 
  • Operate material hoists and compressors. 
  • Mix plaster, mortar and concrete. 
  • Erect and remove concrete forms and scaffolding. 
  • Cut or bore through walls, ceilings or partitions. 

Required Qualifications*

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 6 am to 2:30 pm

Additional Information

  • This position will be required to be able to do the following:
  • Lift or transport materials not limited to over 80 pounds in weight.
  • Use ladders
  • Enter confined spaces ( Interstitials)
  • Erect Barrier protection such as starc panels and Visqueen
  • Fire protection (caulk putties, pillows, block)

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the U-M Skilled Trades Union, Inc., which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
