Summary

The Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery has an opening for self-motivated, team oriented Patient Services Assistant. This position is located in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at CW Mott Children?s Hospital. This role will be to provide skilled support and work collaboratively with other members of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Team.

Responsibilities*

This position will include a variety of patient support tasks including:

  • Check-in and Check-out duties
  • Provide a warm welcome or departure to patients entering/exiting the clinic
  • Explain a variety of forms and obtain patient signatures as required
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, including in-person and video visits
  • Send no show letters to patients that do not attend their scheduled video visit appointment
  • Schedule specialty tests
  • Responsible for working the Pre-Service Business Task work queue
  • Daily completion of Credit Card Terminal Inspection Survey
  • Collect co-pays
  • Enter charge information into system
  • Reconcile drawers
  • Complete closing paperwork for drawers
  • Drop daily deposits
  • Communicate and work collaboratively with all clinic personnel (MA, faculty, residents, nurses, OR Schedulers) to address patient needs and issues when identified
  • Print medical information to facilitate the patients visit
  • Provide directions to other clinic locations (ie ? Radiology and Orthotics & Prosthetics)
  • Call for interpreters and transporters
  • Manage outside Radiology imaging by downloading CD?s into system
  • Que up radiology orders, as directed by clinical staff
  • Process documents to central imaging
  • Fax completed PT orders to appropriate locations
  • Cover check-in/out desk when there are call-ins or absences
  • Cover check-in/out desk in our sister clinic, Peds Neuro/Plastics/Oral ACU, as needed
  • Assist with lunch coverage at check-in/out desks
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled
  • Attend work group meetings as scheduled
  • Other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will be required to actively participate in the department?s Lean initiatives, Service Excellence programs, maintain Cornerstone learning compliance, specific procedure competencies and knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.

Required Qualifications*

  • The successful candidate will have completed high school or obtained an equivalent combination of education
  • 0-2 years of experience
  • The preferred candidate will be responsible for meeting the highest standard of customer service while facilitating the communication between patients and families, general public, payers, referring physicians and other healthcare providers 
  • Basic medical terminology competency is required
  • Candidates should have the appropriate skill set to be able to manage a fast paced work environment, heavy workload and be able to work a flexible schedule, per clinic need
  • Applicants must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and work successfully in a team oriented atmosphere
  • Ability to type at least 50 wpm and experience with email programs
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous Orthopaedic experience is helpful
  • Previous experience working with MiChart/Epic care/Cadence, as well as knowledge of University policies and procedures is helpful
