Summary

**THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN FLINT, MICHIGAN**

The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a part-time research assistant to work on research studies investigating mobile health technology and addressing health disparities around stroke and stroke prevention in a collaborative and diverse team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, enjoy interacting with a diverse group of research participants, and be capable of working both independently and in close collaboration with team members and investigators.

This position will be primarily responsible for screening subjects for eligibility, performing in-person consent and enrollment visits, and outcome visits. Recruitment would take place in a busy emergency department in Flint, MI, (Hurley Medical Center) it is important you are comfortable in that setting. Although in-depth experience with technology is not required, a basic comfort level will be important.

This position is anticipated to be for 8-24 hours per week. This position may involve evenings and weekends to accommodate recruitment and/or outcome visits.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist study teams with all aspects of clinical trial coordination including: identifying potential subjects, screening subjects, consenting and enrolling subjects, and collecting patient surveys and blood pressures (using automated blood pressure cuff).
  • Schedule study visit appointments.
  • Perform phone calls to patients for technology trouble-shooting and follow-up.
  • Scheduling outcome assessments (possibly in community centers, libraries, or homes, in which case research assistants may go in pairs)
  • Enter subjects' research data into an electronic data entry system.
  • Assist with organization and storage of research data.
  • Track subjects and maintain accurate and detailed study records.
  • Perform data management and quality control.
  • Assist in generating weekly recruitment reports for the study.
  • Troubleshoot basic participant device issues.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both verbal and written form.
  • Ability to communicate clearly over the phone and through video conferencing.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Human Subjects Research Experience
  • Experience using Epic and Redcap.
  • Experience with video conferencing software such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, etc.
  • Familiarity with Flint

Work Schedule

Your work schedule in this position is a bit flexible. We prefer candidates with availability to work evenings and weekends.

Additional Information

This is a term-limited position, intended to best suit part-time summer work, with potential to continue past the summer pending grant funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct. 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
