This position in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases is for one (1) 1.0 full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the inpatient Pediatric Infectious Diseases Consult Team.

Full Time Salary range: $116,239 - $178,620  / year

Responsibilities*

  • Perform inpatient consults
  • Perform history and physical examinations
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies 
  • Document in electronic medical record
  • Collaborate with primary managing team members including physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, pharmacists, and social workers
  • Patient/family education
  • Respond to calls from patients/families
  • May participate in hospital follow-up visits in the ambulatory care setting in the future

Required Qualifications*

NP: 

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan
  • Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). 
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA approved BLS also required unless PALS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center
  • 3 or more years clinician experience with inpatient pediatric patients the last 5 years 

PA

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or one of its predecessor agencies. 
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required  
  • Current DEA registration required
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required  
  • AHA approved BLS also required unless PALS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center
  • 3 or more years clinician experience with inpatient pediatric patients the last 5 years

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Minimum of one year of experience practicing as an NP/PA in inpatient pediatrics.
  • Experience caring for complicated pediatric patients, such as intensive care or immune compromised patients, is preferred. 
  • 5 of more years of clinical experience in the pediatric population.
  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by using current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize busy clinical practice.
     

Work Schedule

Hours/Week: Full time
Shift/Hours/Days: Variable days Monday ? Sunday, including weekend requirements and potential for holiday and on-call.  

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
