Summary

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) is seeking an Information Systems Manager to be a part of our team.  The Information Systems Manager provides leadership and technical oversight of all core technology systems used across the Alumni Association.  Relying on technical expertise and industry experience, this role provides guidance and mentorship for the Information Systems team and supports the association's staff and customers.  This position also oversees the full lifecycle of technology services, including planning, implementation, adoption, ongoing support, upgrades, and retirement or replacement of technologies.

Responsibilities*

  • Manage the Information Systems team, including setting expectations, managing work schedules, and establishing priorities
  • Foster opportunities for the Information System team's professional growth and innovation
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide guidance, coaching, mentorship, and training
  • Apply knowledge of industry best practices and IT concepts related to the development and support of the Association's systems and processes
  • Oversee technology projects, development, implementation, adoption, and rollout
  • Serve as a pseudo-project manager on technology-centric projects
  • Oversee ongoing technology support, troubleshooting, documentation, and training
  • Manage IT security and compliance with industry standards, IT best practices, and internal university policies
  • Support remote access connectivity and access to ITS infrastructure
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for operational infrastructure, including software, hardware, services, and networking
  • Manage Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy
  • Provide support for communications and web conferencing services
  • Act as a technical liaison for the university's central Information and Technology Services (ITS)
  • Manage and track technology budgets and resources
  • Act as the primary point of contact for technology vendors

General Duties

  • Provide organizational leadership by demonstrating AAUM core values: All In, Serving Heart and Solution Seeker, and helping other staff members demonstrate those values

  • Work with AAUM staff members to gain a clear and consistent understanding of the details of the strategic plan and feel equal ownership of every piece of it, including pieces for which there is no direct responsibility
  • Be inclusive and collaborative with all AAUM staff and teams. Operate as a critical contributing member of the staff to complete objectives in many different areas in order to move the whole organization toward the strategic plan
  • Support University Relations efforts by demonstrating AAUM value to campus units/partners (i.e., schools/colleges, campuses)
  • Continually build digital skill sets in order to implement them into work
  • Staff and participate in team meetings, Alumni Association events that may be during evenings or weekends, and staff retreats, including offsite, overnight staff retreats at Camp Michigania
  • Provide staff support to the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, its committees, and other volunteers as needed
  • Coordinate special projects as assigned or required
  • Participate in the Alumni Association and other University committees as required
  • Share knowledge through internal communication
  • Support the Alumni Association's vision of creating a place of belonging for all alumni
  • Remain current with respect to technology and the University's educational resources

 

Supervision Received:

Direct supervision is received from the Director of Technology

Supervision Exercised:

Coordinates the work of information systems staff, consultants, and temporary employees

Required Qualifications*

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and at least five years of professional experience in managing and executing information system projects or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Extensive Information Systems troubleshooting skills
  • A can-do approach to problem-solving with a positive attitude, energy, and approach to developing solution strategies
  • A keen interest and focus on delivering support and exceptional customer service experience
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in team environments
  • Must be highly motivated and self-directed
  • Experience and proven ability to supervise others, manage multiple concurrent tasks/projects, and continually adjust priorities on emerging issues and changing timelines
  • Strong analytical and technical aptitude with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service and high levels of productivity
  • Ability to work effectively with leaders and colleagues in a multicultural and diverse environment

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with the Salesforce platforms
  • Experience with managing data systems
  • Experience with scripting and software development tools
  • Experience supporting PCI compliance and information systems security

Work Locations

This position is located at Camp Michigania in Boyne City, MI, and requires residence within a commutable distance. The position is hybrid and will require on site work a few days a week. 

Additional Information

  • AAUM welcomes applications from people of all abilities. This particular position requires the occasional moving of 30 lbs or less. 
  • This position requires some evening and weekend work.
