Summary

The Academic Success Program Internship Program is an intensive internship designed to prepare aspiring new professionals in the field of academic support for student-athletes and obtain a full-time position in the field. The program seeks to develop and/or increase proficiency of interns in key skills necessary to excel in the area of academic support for student-athletes. The ASP Intern will support the ASP staff in the daily and nightly management of study table. Interns will gain a wide variety of Academic Counselor and Learning Specialist experience; exposure to all areas of academic support, competency in NCAA/Big Ten Rules; professional development opportunities; project management experience; and job marketability.

Responsibilities*

1. Under the direction of Academic Counseling staff, provide daily contact with assigned student-athletes to offer academic coaching in areas of study and organizational skills, time management, major requirements, eligibility standards, and academic priority for students by designing individualized academic plans.
2. Exposure to Learning Specialists? development, execution and evaluation of a comprehensive learning initiatives program for at-risk student-athletes.
3. Compile reports (study table hours, tutorial schedules, academic performance, academic progress reports, class schedules, weekly meeting records).
4. Compile and analyze course syllabuses for tutorial and study needs.
5. Assist with meeting prospective student-athletes and their families to promote the benefits and services of the Academic Success Program.
6. Assist with the supervision of daytime and evening supervised study and tutorial/mentoring sessions.
7. Assist with the scheduling and matching of daytime and evening tutoring and mentoring appointments.
8. Assist with the recruitment and interviewing of prospective tutors and mentors.
9. Assist with the development and implementation of tutoring and mentoring training sessions.
10. Communicate effectively with tutors, mentors, ASP staff and students in an appropriate and professional manner.
11. Adhere to the rules and regulations of the University, The Big Ten Conference and the NCAA. Commit to reporting any Big Ten or NCAA violations involving the University of Michigan
departmental compliance personnel.
12. Attend and participate in staff meetings.

Required Qualifications*

1. Bachelor?s Degree Required
2. Master?s degree, currently pursuing, or interest in pursuing a post-graduate degree in an area related to higher education, student advising, psychology, social work, or administration
preferred.
3. Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays is required.
4. Experience with supervision and program management.
