Summary

Serve as a full-time finance team member, working a remote and/or hybrid schedule, in the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine reporting to the ULAM Financial Manager of Business Operations and ULAM Faculty Leadership.

Responsibilities*

75% Contract and Grant Management

  • Pre-award duties include preparation and submission of timely proposals for all research faculty, preparing budgets, coordinating and compiling proposal documents, assuring compliance with University policies and Federal Uniform Guidance, interaction with appropriate research office staff, and submission through eRPM (University of Michigan proposal management database).
  • Proposals range from small proposals for individual faculty to complex proposals requiring several budget types and preparation of information from multiple stakeholders and participants.
  • Post-award responsibilities include tracking and oversight of project financial status, projecting and updating encumbrances, development and communication of staff effort planning reports, provision of sponsor specific reporting and invoice backup, re-budgeting as required by sponsors and the University, and initial approval of transactions.
  • Preparation and submission of no-cost time extensions and renewals.
  • Coordinate PAF's, MTA's, UFA's, RPPR's, FSR's, contracts (including VA contracts) and reporting requirements as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison with Faculty, Dean's office, ORSP and Sponsored Programs for matters relating to ULAM contracts, external customer activities and Master Research Agreements, as well as UFA's NDA?s and MTA's.
  • Represent ULAM at GPAC, PAAC, etc. meetings.
  • Provides effort review and effort certification functions, monitor and submit requests for DBE changes and salary transfer transactions.

25% Department Financial Management

 

  • Review transactions to ensure compliance with contracts gift agreements, government regulations, accounting standards and university policies, including transactions related to sponsored and non-sponsored funds.
  • Reconcile accounts and assist in developing reports as well as resolving specific account and documentation issues.
  • Prepare and present a variety of financial reports including those related to fund, department or project grant activity.
  • Analyze and summarize variances and balances of accounts in financial reports.
  • Prepare journal entries and coordinate the transfer of funds between different accounts/funds when appropriate.

Required Qualifications*

  • Intermediate level: Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years progressively responsible experience
  • Associate level: Bachelor's degree with 1-3 years progressively responsible experience
  • Extremely detail oriented with the ability to recognize and investigate data anomalies
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to build successful relationships with a wide variety of people at all levels
  • Demonstrate proficiency in M-Pathways, M-Reports, and creating Business Objects queries
  • Sound organizational skills and the ability to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Under UFSA, incumbents in this position meet the criteria for exempt status

Background Screening
