Responsibilities*

We are seeking a software developer/bioinformatician to join our team in the dynamic intersection of biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence (AI), and software development. This role involves responsibilities such as developing databases, managing web servers, crafting software solutions, implementing and evaluating algorithms, and working on use cases. The successful candidate will also engage in outreach and training activities, respond to user inquiries, and manage technical support communications.

Required Qualifications*

  • A minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of analysis/programming activities in an academic or business environment.
  • Strong skills in software programming in languages including Python, PHP, and Java. Include an appendix with coding examples or provide hyperlinks to GitHub repositories.
  • Solid background in database development and maintenance.
  • Experience in Linux/Unix administration.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience in bioinformatics, Semantic Web, and ontology is preferred.
  • Experience as an author/co-author on published bodies of work is preferred.

Work Schedule

Prefer to hire a full-time employee. A part-time position is also possible.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
