A total of three (3), 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professionals (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*

  • Coordinates and manages care of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit setting.  
  • Complete detailed history and physical examinations
  • Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic studies, and clinical studies.
  • Order tests and prescribe medications. Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures. 
  • Collaborates with attending physician/team and communicates with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.
  • Facilitate the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and team members
  • Participates in quality improvement projects

Required Qualifications*

 Required Qualifications Nurse Practitioner

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • AHA approved BLS certification and PALS
  • Current DEA registration required 
  • At least 2 years pediatric ICU clinical experience within the last 4 years

Required Qualification Physician Assistant

  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required  
  • Current DEA registration required 
  • AHA approved BLS certification and PALS
  • At least 2 years pediatric ICU clinical experience within the last 4 years

Desired Qualifications*

  • Two years experience as a practicing Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in pediatric critical care
  • At least 4 years practicing as an Advanced Practice Provider
  • Demonstrated expertise in facilitating the educational growth of others.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal & written communication, organization & problem-solving skills. 
  • Self-directed, reliable, demonstrates initiative and motivation to work independently 
  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment. 
  • Committed to the professional development, demonstrated through publishing, presenting, and committee work

Work Schedule

Shift: Rotation including days/nights/weekends and holidays
Location: C.S. Mott Children's Hospital- 10 East, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit                                    
1500 E Medical Center Dr., Ann Arbor, MI, 48109

Modes of Work

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
