Summary

A highly motivated research laboratory technician is sought for a position in a translational laboratory focused on circulating tumor cell biology at the University of Michigan Rogel Cancer Center. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing a wide variety of technical lab support, individually and with other research personnel.

The primary role of this position will be to assist with technical and administrative aspects of all studies, including processing and analyzing patient samples for research trials using the CellSearch and Cepheid systems.  The applicant may also independently perform cell culture, in vitro studies of cultured cancer cell lines,  DEPArray sample processing, and DNA amplification.  The person should maintain detailed records of all experiments and data.

Responsibilities*

  • Process research samples using CellSearch, Cepheid, DEPArray systems.
  • Data collection, analysis, management, and interpretation; maintenance of experimental protocols.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory, study, and experimental records.
  • Independently perform or assist with experiments including human samples, cell culture, phenotyping and genotyping of cultured human cell lines, DNA amplification, and present results at lab meetings.
  • Assist in the procurement, storage, and documentation of human blood and tissue.
  • Help in ordering and maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies.

Required Qualifications*

Intermediate Level: 

  • Bachelors degree in biological, health, or related field of study and 1-3 years of experience.

Associate Level:

  • Associates degree in biological, health, or related field of study and 0-1 years of experience.

Both:

  • Applicant must be hard working, efficient, highly motivated, well organized, and able to work with minimal supervision in small group setting.
  • Willingness and ability to acquire new skills. 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; excellent attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Masters Degree in a recognized field of science directly related to the position.
  • 3-5 years of related laboratory experience. Translational research and research at the bench highly preferred.
  • Good team skills and be able to efficiently multi-task.
  • An interest in learning new techniques.
  • Familiarity with University research administration policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques.
  • Familiarity with breast cancer field.
  • A working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.

Background Screening
