Summary

The Wu laboratory at the Life Sciences Institute is looking for a motivated and organized person with a background in mammalian cell culture and animal physiology to join our team as a research laboratory technician.  Our laboratory is focused on understanding how physiological function of adipose tissue and liver are affected by obesity and chronic alcohol usage.  You will be involved in cell culture and mice work and report directly to Dr. Wu.  You will work full-time onsite at the Life Sciences Institute.

Responsibilities*

Experimental responsibilities will include:


- Managing mammalian tissue culture cell lines, which will include culturing and ensuring quality control and proper storage 
- Performing polymerase chain reaction for genotyping mice
- Collecting and managing cell culture and animal experiment datasets using Graphpad Prism and Excel
- Collecting and analyzing laboratory samples
- Preparing reagents
- Following University and lab safety protocols (may include use of combustibles, toxic material, or carcinogens)

 Non-experimental responsibilities will include:

- Maintaining well-organized, written records of experimental results
- Ordering supplies and reagents

 

Required Qualifications*

- BS in Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related discipline
- Two years of laboratory research experience in molecular biology and animal physiology, including cell culture
- Two years of experience working with mice and maintaining mice colonies
- Two years of experience in metabolic investigation, including performing glucose tolerance test
- Prior experience designing experiments, analyzing, and presenting data

Desired Qualifications*

- One year of experience in immunology, including flow cytometry and cell sorting using the core facility
- Two years of experience in DNA preparation and PCR
- One year of experience with Excel or Graphpad Prism
- Previous experience preparing manuscripts
