Job Summary

TechTutors serve as consultants to students who are interested in improving their knowledge of software and tools such as the Office, Google, and Adobe suites, Canva, and Qualtrics. Other course related software may also be supported.

 

You will  use and develop skills in productivity, media and graphics applications, as well as building excellent customer service skills. TechTutors may also have opportunities to work on projects, lead workshops, or explore new technologies. Consultants will be expected to have basic knowledge of a variety of software and be willing to learn more.

 

Responsibilities*

`

  • Provide tutorial assistance to students.
  • Encourage student participation in tutoring.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and participation.
  • Refer students to other avenues of support. 
  • Participate in Tutorial Services orientation and meetings.
  • Respond to all inquiries in a timely fashion.
  • May include development of instructional materials and assisting with workshops
  • Represent the office and University in a respectful and professional manner

Required Qualifications*

? APPLICANTS MUST BE CURRENT STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN-DEARBORN--Work Study recipients preferred.
? Tutors must be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people and be able to empathize with diversity.
? Tutors must be patient, flexible and able to adjust to various situations they encounter.
? Strong communication and organization skills a must.
? Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
? Working knowledge of common UM tools, such as the Google Apps (Drive, Gmail, Docs), Canvas, Zoom, and Dropbox
? Eagerness to learn new software programs
? Ability to work independently with high efficiency and productivity, including setting and monitoring own work hours
 

Desired Qualifications*

Applicants should qualify for Federal Work Study.

Applicants should be able to work the entire academic year. Summer hours are not quaranteed.

Applicants should be familiar with:

  • MATLAB
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • MAC and Windows operating systems
