Summary

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and the Department of Film, Television and Media at the University of Michigan invite applications for a Lecturer I position at 100% effort for the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 Term. This appointment is scheduled to begin on August 26, 2024 and end April 2025.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include course coordination and teaching of the following courses in the Fall term 2024 and Winter term 2025:
FTVM 290 - Introduction to Film, Video and Television Production
This class is designed to develop a broad range of skills integral to communicating with motion pictures. Students will work in crews to complete short projects in multi-camera television, video and 16mm film. The class aims to advance skill not only in image and sound production and design, but also in representational strategies central to this work. The aim of the course is to master a basic understanding of the aesthetics and processes of film, video, and television production. Similarities and differences of the various media/approaches will be examined.
This course would be taught in both the Fall 2024 and Winter 2025 terms.

FTVM 304 - Topics in Media Production I
This course provides intermediate experience in special production topics: Film, video, television and/or digital production and may focus on a particular subject area and/or approach to the medium. FTVM 304 is an opportunity for the instructor to design and/or teach a course that draws on their area of expertise or specialization.
This course would be taught in the Winter 2025 term.
Preference will also be given to candidates that can teach the following course:

FTVM 302 - Multi-Camera Television Production
This course is designed to give students further experience in conceptualizing multi-camera workflows. Coursework provides hands-on experience in all aspects of multi-camera studio television production through a series of increasingly complex short directing projects. The course is designed to focus on the relationship between technique and content in television programs and on the challenges of adapting scripts to screen. 
This course would be taught in the Fall 2024 term. 

Required Qualifications*

Candidates should possess a bachelor's degree, a proven teaching record of excellence, and a portfolio of work demonstrating a commitment to moving image media as an art form. The Department of Film, Television, and Media integrates theory and practice within a liberal arts context.

The selection criteria used for this search is based on how the applicant's education and experience meets the required minimum qualifications for the position. Excellence in teaching and instruction will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
