Summary

Responsible for the review and evaluation of domestic and international freshman applications for admission in accordance with University and Office of Undergraduate Admissions guidelines, policies and procedures.

Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Enrollment (OEM) division provides campus-wide leadership in executing the strategic recruitment, undergraduate admission, enrollment, new student programs, records management and student financial support functions for the university.

Responsibilities*

80% Review and evaluate a high volume of applications for domestic and international freshman admission using the University's online, individualized and comprehensive freshman application evaluation process in accordance with University and OUA guidelines, policies and procedures.  Provide a comprehensive written assessment of the quality of each application in a timely fashion. The assessment will include the evaluation of subjective and objective information including a decision recommendation.  This may include computational analysis of data included in the application.  Must demonstrate flexibility by keeping up-to-date with any procedural or guideline changes, which might impact review of applications.  Must maintain communication and interaction with the Assistant Director for Application Review as well as other staff as needed during the review process.  Ensure confidentiality and security of application files and all OUA materials at all times. Work independently with a high degree of confidence in an online environment.  

 

20% Appointments begin with required virtual training that will take place across three weeks.  Training start date is September 16th OR September 23rd.

*Please note that though this position typically allows employees to set their own working schedules, the real time virtual training sessions noted as required below are mandatory during the specified dates and times, and there are no exceptions to this schedule as we do not allow missed training sessions.

Tuesday: Real Time Virtual Training Optional Q&A/Check-In 1:00-2:00pm

Thursday: Real Time Virtual Training Optional Q&A/Check-In 1:00-2:00pm

Week 2: 20 hours of training, combination of independent work and required real time virtual training outlined below.

Monday: Real Time Virtual Training Required 9:00am-12:00pm

Tuesday: Real Time Virtual Training Required 9:00am-12:00pm

Wednesday: Real Time Virtual Training Required 9:00am-12:00pm

Thursday: Real Time Virtual Training Required 9:00am-12:00pm

Friday: Real Time Virtual Training Optional Q&A/Check-In 11:00am-12:00pm

Week 3: 15 hours of training, combination of independent work and optional real time virtual training outlined below.

Friday: Real Time Virtual Training Optional Q&A/Check-In 9:00-11:00 am

Week 4: Full 20 hour appointment begins with first application assignment. 

 

Attend monthly staff meetings, and other duties as assigned. 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Direction is received from the Assistant Director for Application Review.  


 

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in counseling, human relations or education
  • Student services experience in higher education
  • Familiarity with review and evaluation of written material 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to provide both oral and written direction 
  • Familiarity/experience with using Windows-based computer programs 
  • Proficient and comfortable with working independently on computers and with a variety of applications

Desired Qualifications*

  • Knowledge of Undergraduate Admissions policies and procedures 
  • Familiarity with recruitment and counseling practices at higher education institutions


 

Additional Information

NOTE:  The Application Review Specialist position is a work-from-home, part-time (50%), temporary position.  The rate of pay is $20.50/hr. for newly hired Application Review Specialists.  

All Application Review Specialists are required to provide and maintain their own internet connection capable of meeting work requirements.  Internet specifications include:

  • Computer should be connected to a cable modem or router with a wired or wireless connection.
  • High speed cable modem connectivity is desired configuration (min 3 Mbps download and 768 Kbps upload).
  • DSL is a problem and not sufficient, especially DSL to wireless.

 

All Application Review Specialists are required to provide and maintain their own computer capable of meeting work requirements. Minimum specifications for a personal computer include:

 

  • Modern and up to date browser. Use of Internet Explorer is not recommended. The following browsers are unsupported:
  • Internet Explorer 11 and earlier versions
  • Firefox 22 and earlier versions
  • Safari 6 and earlier versions
  • Support for JavaScript
  • Minimum display resolution of 1024x768px
  • Microphone and video camera

 

 

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST AND RESTRICTIONS

 

Given the sensitive nature of the admission selection process, and in an effort to avoid any potential conflicts of interest, Application Review Specialists may not be the parent, guardian, or immediate family member of a high school student. Application Review Specialists can neither be employed by another university or high school, nor be employed independently or with an organization that provides personal college counseling of any type.
